Turkey denied the US transport permission,

As I recall the government backed our use of their territory, but the opposition defeated them through an obscure parliamentary rule no one had ever heard of. Remember the vote was won, but then someone discovered that the rules called for the vote to be a majority of those present and voting, which meant that technically the abstentions counted as no votes.

Anybody remembering this? I wouldn't count Turkey out as an ally just yet.

Power in the hands of people without the ability to use it is a very dangerous thing indeed

So is democracy

I believe that your memory is accurate enough to make your point.

My point is that Turkey is ally enough to make us slide the shiv in the Kurds back a second time, 41 and 43.

I don’t think that’s what we’re doing. We delivered the legitimate Kurdish political factions from Saddam and supported their quasi-independence, complete with an independent militia, throughout the insurgency period. However, the Kurdish communist terrorists who operate against Turkey have never been our allies and we owe them nothing.

Oh and by the way, just to be pedantic, it would be the third time, not the second. Remember the Brits tried to get us to take eastern Turkey and Kurdistan as a mandate in the aftermath of WWI. We wanted no part of any colonial system and left them all to their fate.

They faced 300, then they faced 40,000.

Do they want to face 50,000,000?

“Sure, we can share. Let Europe take over its own defense for starters, no more money for Africa, they can pay their own bills. Palestine can get money and defenses from Egypt, and China can have Russia.”

And the next time Turkey suffers from an earthquake, certainly Russia will take over in the aid department.
