Russia says it will start pulling troops from Georgia [on Monday]

GORI, Georgia (Reuters) - Russia announced to the West it would begin withdrawing forces from Georgia on Monday after a war that dealt a humiliating blow to the Black Sea state and raised fears for energy supplies to Europe.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Sunday that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had told him by telephone that forces would begin leaving around midday on Monday.

Sarkozy, representing the European Union, said failure to pull out under a ceasefire deal would have "serious consequences" for ties with the EU.

Sunday saw no evidence of fighting, but Russian troops continued to man a checkpoint into Gori, albeit with a reduced presence -- two armored personnel carriers.

Major-General Vyacheslav Borisov, frontline commander around Gori, which lies 30 km (20 miles) beyond South Ossetia, told Reuters troops were already on the move. "You must understand there are a large amount of troops," he said.

Borisov said his soldiers were maintaining positions around Gori, a city controlling the approach to South Ossetia and the main east-west highway, to protect Russia's military pullout.

Months of tension between Georgia and its former Soviet master erupted on August 7, when Tbilisi launched an assault to seize back control of the Russian-backed breakaway South Ossetia region. Russia said 1,600 civilians, many of them Russian citizens, were killed in the Georgian bombardment.

Russian troops fanned out beyond the boundaries of South Ossetia into the Georgian heartland, taking control of major centers including the strategically placed city of Gori in fierce fighting that lasted over five days. Both sides raised accusations of atrocities.

The Kremlin confirmed Sarkozy's announcement, made in Paris a day after Georgia and Russia sealed a ceasefire deal.

Sure they will. Or maybe Tuesday. Or it might take until Wednesday. But on Thursday they were obliged to move forward because of those aggressive Georgian baby-killers.

And there were still a few shops to loot and women to rape in Tblisi.

Maybe Friday?

Just a few more things to destroy and we’re outta here!

If they can wrap up and deploy in a matter of hours to attack, why can’t they pick up and go home in a matter of hours? Why is it taking days.

I am very dissapointed in how this turned out and the show of fear this world gave to Russia. They are not the people to show weakness to.

We have not yet used our greatest weapon...Wall St. It is time to let the Rooskies know who holds all the cards in this poker game. It is time to get every American bank, mutual fund, insurance company, foundation and every other institution to start selling every Russian stock that we own. Choke the Rooskies in billions of overnight losses and convince the Europeans to do the same. Let the Rooskies know that if you want to be a bully, there is not a single place on earth outside of Russia to park your rubles!

Love the image.....That;s exactly what lies in the future.

IVAN has really over cooked their goose on this one. With our lead, and EU starting to finally engage, they will lose all their leverage.

The only Russian stocks that get a lot of play here are the oil companies, drillers and gas, and they have been selling off for a month. We likely will dump more, but this won't hurt the Government.
