LAKE FOREST, Calif. Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain briefly shared a stage at Rev. Rick Warren's cavernous Saddleback Church on Saturday night as they discussed what their faith means to them and highlighted their vastly different views on issues, none more stark than abortion.
In the two-hour forum, Obama said it was above his "pay grade" when asked to define when a baby gets human rights. But McCain quickly answered, "At the moment of conception."
The Republican senator from Arizona drew frequent applause from the nearly 2,800 members of the evangelical church in Orange County with crisp answers intended to reinforce his conservative credentials.
Obama, who spoke for the first hour, offered more nuanced and analytical answers on some of the issues important to conservative voters: abortion, same-sex marriage and stem-cell research.
Role of faith Obama, who until recently attended the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, spoke more revealingly than McCain about his personal faith and its role in his life.
Explaining what it meant to him to be a Christian, the Democratic senator from Illinois talked of "walking humbly with our God": "I know that I don't walk alone, and I know that if I can get myself out of the way, that I can maybe carry out in some small way what he intends."
He paraphrased a line from the New Testament to answer Warren's second question about what had been America's greatest moral failure. "We still don't abide by that basic precept of Matthew that whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me," Obama replied.

It seems he carefully crafts his words to please whatever crowd with whom he is speaking. Hopefully, someone will pick through his hundreds of appearances and highlight some very significant differences - he is lying to one or the other.
As he was walking off stage did McCain really say “Hey Obama, who’s your daddy?” No? Well he should have.
It just so happens that I watched both of them. McCain clearly spoke with candor and this report is pure BS.
First time I ever heard of a politician doing that.
The grasping at straws going on by some posters here hurts my ears, sort of like scratching a chalk board.
That’s a funny DU thread. I especially liked the honesty of one poster: “But we shouldn’t have had to hope on a convention bump. Not this year, Not this time.”
The Dem’s are blowing it for themselves.
Not all politicians pander all the time. Some politicians will tell you no sometimes.
I did not watch the broadcast (I'm too much of an Olympics junkie) but I followed the live thread on FR. I've been reading the mainstream press reports on it this morning which are all overly generous to Obama. The GOOD NEWS is that youtube is out there! People are going to see for themselves Uh Uh Uh Uh Uhbama and it may help McCain's cause.
In addition it was gratifying to me to see so many FReepers who admittedly were considering voting third party now saying they would vote for McCain.
Re #26
Amen
Instead he talked about abortion.
Really strange dude who instantly equates the word "baby" with "abortion".
Yes, that is how one succeeds in the business world.
But when you have a government job, or one in the diversity racket, as Obama and his wife have had their entire adult lives, there's no point in doing more than your pay grade permits. Promotions and pay increases happen on a strict schedule.
Good to hear. You mention you tube. That site is mainly comprised of European socialists.
Forgot to add the old statement that action speaks louder than words.
The comments section bends hard to the left for sure. But I don't read the comments section, especially if I'm watching anything with political overtones. I do what I believe most people on youtube do. They go in, watch the video and then move on to another. Honestly I would bet that 90% of people who watch things on youtube don't read the comments sections.
Also, at least as it may relate to his daughters, considers conception a 'mistake', a baby as 'punishment', and abortion as a solution. Thereby demonstrating the depth of his 'christian' faith.
