You've Gotta Have Heart? How Obama Chooses Judges
by Deal W. Hudson
8/10/08
Evoking the power of the human heart is the daily bread of American pop culture. It rarely raises an eyebrow. But the use of "heart" by Barack Obama to describe his criteria for picking judges is troubling.
Speaking to Planned Parenthood just over a year ago, Obama said:
We need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom; the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that's the criteria by which I'm going to be selecting my judges.
Certainly, that empathy is desirable for anyone, simply as a human being. But what makes it a desirable quality for a judge or a Supreme Court justice? The phrase "sober as a judge" is a colloquialism for a reason. The senator implies that there's something missing in the Constitution and our law that must be supplied by the heart -- in other words, the empathy or caring of the judge. For him, the judge without "heart" cannot justly rule on cases about those who are gay, African-American, disabled, or "old" (whatever that means).

Judge with Heart = Abortion on Demand
You are on the wrong forum. The people on this forum are true blue conservatives and they are very upset with McCain for one reason or another. They will not vote for McCain and will therefore help elect Obama. Go figure.
The thought Obama’s judicial appointments should make any conservative shiver. I have my own issues with McCain but the alternative is unthinkable.
Tagline says it
Maybe judges aren’t the best thing to use to scare people into voting for Mr gang of 14.
I don’t want a judge based on his heart, I want a judge based on his mind and that he can read and interpret the law as it is written. Not listen to his heart and make judgements based on what he feeeelllssss.
Typical liberal.
Speak for yourself.
Maybe judges arent the best thing to use to scare people into voting for Mr gang of 14.

If they aren’t, then what is?
And here’s how McCain will choose judges:
“Ok, Senator Kennedy, I expect your wish list of judges on my desk by Monday.”
Proverbs 14:12.....There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

If they arent, then what is?
Trusting McCain to stand for conservative ideals is like trusting a fox to guard your hen house.
Obama has been described as a Constitutional Lawyer. The say he taught constitutonal law in law school. He doen’t even mention that document. Let’s just make it up as we go along based on our ‘feelings’.
(Why we have to vote for McCain)
Not if he picks another RINO or liberal pro-abort for VP I don’t.
Then go dig a hole somewhere, cover yourself up and shiver. Maybe all that fear will scare him away.
No person with genuine empathy could possibly support any form of abortion as birth control. Siding with the perpetrator over the victim is not empathy.
Leahy and Schumer will choose the next SC Justice for Obama or McCain. It will be either another Ginsburg or another Souter - some choice.

And if we’re placing a burden on the doctor that says you have to keep alive even a previable child as long as possible and give them as much medical attention as — as is necessary to keep that child alive, then we’re probably crossing the lines in terms of unconstitutionality.
