Palin's Gas Pipeline Isn't Hot Air

Energy: As congressional Democrats dither on a vote for oil drilling, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has pushed through a gas pipeline project to bring new supply and price relief to the lower 48. On Aug. 1, the same day the call for a vote on drilling began on the House floor, the Alaska state Senate approved a package of measures to license a new natural gas pipeline. House Bill 3001 lets Palin award the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act license to TransCanada Alaska, a pipeline builder that cast a winning bid of five.

Yep a governor with a real record on the issue of the year. That sounds like an excellent Veep to me.

I think Governor Palin would be a GREAT Vice President choice and would have a MUCH better chance than any other Republican against Hilary in 2012.

McCain & Palin 2008! Palin & Sessions in 2012!

Yeah, Gov. Palin might have a political future. Too bad the center-left knuckleheads running the GOP will probably sabotage her in the end.

It’s true she only has 2 years as Governor, but this is NOT a year in which Democrats can carp about lack of experience without looking like morons.

>>>The more I learn about Governor Palin, the more I like her.<<<

And you should see what she looks like. Sarah could melt butter just by walking through the room.

Those of us in Alaska like the idea of the gas pipeline, as long as there’s a spur line running down to the Kenai (and maybe one to Southeast, too - I don’t know about the technical aspects and if that’s even possible). We have lots of natural gas here and it needs to go to market. Also, it’s cold as a witch’s **** here in the winter and that natural gas would be a great alternative to diesel.

I can’t figure out how to post photos, so someone else will have to show you that while we have the coldest state, we have the hottest governor.

The map I found shows that the spur line does run down to Valdez - in fact, reading all the comments from the Alaskan public, some 1,000 posted online, which Palin solicited because she wanted to do what the voters wanted, lots and lots said they wanted that spur line. My favorite quote from that was the Alaskan who emailed: ‘Git-r-done.’

Thanks for your post. However, Valdez isn’t Anchorage or Fairbanks. I want a line that leads right down Cushman Street, along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway, and on through Spenard. The spur line you mention would assist the proposed LNG terminal in Valdez - again, not a bad idea, but not the same as getting natural gas to the majority of Alaskans. It was really be nice (in a dreamy, utopian sense) for one of those lines to parallel the proposed Western Alaskan Highway from Fairbanks to Nome, but now I’m into the land of make-believe.

I think in the end Alaskans will get to use their own natural gas, just because we are fighting for it right now. Or in the middle of the night someone will hook up a hose and start siphoning, one of the two. LOL

All this gas talk, ya know what's ironic? In 1997, AIP was trying to get Nick Begich (much more of the libitarian/conservative mindset) to run for governor on their ticket. I was invited over his house in Eagle River to hear his viewpoints. Nick had gas line plans back then, and not something 25 years down the road either. He felt that it was imperative that Ak develop it's own gas for Alaskan development. Gas line to Valdez with spurs to Anch, Fair, and everywhere inbetween. Gas wells in major villages rather than 8 dollar/gallon oil shipped in on barges. Clean, cheap, energy, for Alaska from it's own resources that are jointly owned by the state & people.

So 11 years later, our repubs are still talking about something 20 years down the road, maybe???? I completely support Palin; think she is the best thing to happen to the repubs up here in last 20 years but also still figure I will be paying rediculously high utility rates for many years to come. Doesn't have to be that way.

Does anyone ever notice she’s incapable of taking an unflattering photo?
