Russian says shield makes Poland target

A top Russian general said Friday that hosting a U.S. missile shield makes Poland a Kremlin military target, even as Moscow lowered its saber by agreeing to a cease-fire with the former Soviet republic of Georgia in their nations' weeklong war.

According to Russia's Interfax news agency, Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn said Poland's decision could even lead to a nuclear attack on the Kremlin's former Warsaw Pact ally. Russia's president also denounced the U.S.-Poland deal as an anti-Russia act, though he stopped short of threatening Warsaw.

"By hosting [U.S. anti-missile missiles], Poland is making itself a target. This is 100 percent," said Gen. Nogovitsyn, the Russian military's deputy chief of staff. "It becomes a target for attack. Such targets are destroyed as a first priority."

He added that Russia's military planning allows the use of nuclear weapons "against the allies of countries having nuclear weapons if they in some way help them," which he said would include helping with strategic-defense systems.

Another reason to be energy independent. Russia could send the world into complete chaos and we’d better have the resources necessary to defeat them to win another cold war.

Looks like the cold war is being rekindled. I would note, however, that by making this statement, Russia has made itself a target as well.

Also, if we expand oild an coal exploration in the US we can provide oil to our European allies to give to them the poltical manoeuvering room that they need. If we replaced the Russian oil and natural gas going to Europe with American oil and natural gas, then they more ability to counter Russia’s aggressive moves (also it improves our balance of trade and the value of the dollar).

I'll be interested to hear how our pro-Putin Freepers feel about these threats. I suspect they'll say it's Poland's fault for wanting to help the US protect Europe from the potential of Iranian missiles carrying nuclear material supplied by Russia.

Agreed. I think McCain wins. But if Obama wins we're done, finished, there is no coming back from an obama administration. I have some hope that if McCain wins there will be enough gop senators to kill amnesty. An Obama win guarantees that the gop is going to get crushed. They've got 23 senate senates to defend. And obama wins means maybe 42 or 43 senators, some of them rino’s like Snowe from my state. They'll go along with amnesty and soon the illegals will be fast tracked to citizenship. And the illegals will vote like all democrat groups vote, to protect the welfare buck.
I believe this means that Russia and it's allies will be able to do whatever they want. Tanks moving into the new republics, perhaps even Poland, and no one will stop them. Liberals will appease thugs and bullies, and ask them what they can do to help them in their efforts.

Yes, I made a similar point yesterday.

Germany gets 50% of it's Nat-Gas from Russia. they have been intimidated into believing that is they anger Russia they will have their tap shut off.

They are in all probability, right.

No reason we could not supply them but open drilling would be a absolute requirement to do so.
