In a poll conducted by the respected Levada Center, 53 percent of Russians said they supported sending troops into Georgia; 36 percent did not. But 70 percent said they believe South Ossetia should become part of Russia or win independence. But even many of those who said they worry that entering Georgia will ultimately hurt Russia added that they believed Russia had every right to do so.
What George Patton said was even more prophetic. [We had best fight them now (1945) while we are mobilised rather than later.]
Killing small countries is such an ego booster, I can understand. Russia needs to be removed from the history of mankind. It is evil.
Biggest move they have made since Afghanistan. People want to know they live in a strong unified country. A system falls when you don’t support it.(all you libs watching need a lesson in real world life)
It’s been a constant point of Russian history that the Russian people will prefer an authoritarian leader who puts food on their table and makes them feel proud over a democratic leader who can offer no such thing. Thus, the Russian people are willing to overlook Putin’s mob ties, his false abdication of power, and his intimidation of opposition leaders because he has brought them security and restored their pride, even though they are one of the few developed countries in the world whose population is declining.
I have no doubt Putin would win a free and fair election in Russia today. Don’t underestimate Russian nationalism. The average Russian has already forgotten about the crimes of the Soviet Union. Soviet Union 2.0 will happen if Germany and France continue to appease Putin.
