I hope everyone has heard about the war in South Ossetia and Georgia. You probably are convinced by what the media reports, in particular that “Russia is the aggressor against innocent Georgia”. Our government is backing Georgia and also telling us about Russia’s aggression. But that is a lie. I have always made fun of the conspiracy theory people, but I find myself in the same position–criticizing the government and sounding crazy. But I cannot keep quite when such an injustice is going on; so please do not take my words as that of a crazy man who hates America–on the contrary, this country has given me many blessings for which I am endlessly thankful; I care about it and am deeply saddened by how effectively the media has fed us propaganda over the last week. Please read the following short account of my story:

I grew up in Abkhazia, a country only hours away from South Ossetia (see map below). I lived through the 1992 war between Georgia, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia. I have been bombed and shot at by the Georgians. Right now we are in contact with our family in Abkhazia and we receive information first hand with no media bias. I know what I am talking about.

Georgia attacked South Ossetia, destroying its capital Tskhinvali, killing innocent people; Russia came in to protect the Ossetians. If Russia did not step in, Georgians would further the attack and take over Abkhazia; my family would be slaughtered by now. Yet, I am absolutely shocked, absolutely astonished how the media lies to us, telling us “Russia was the aggressor”. I have never, NEVER thought this can be possible in the US–I always believed that the US government has good intentions. Not anymore. All I heard on the news is that “Georgia is an ally that Russia attacked” and similar such lies. George Bush is supporting Saakashvili, the man who lies left and right, and attacks innocent civilians. I cannot believe my ears.

I am not protecting the Russian government, because I do understand that it is likely corrupt also. Of course they are not innocent. However, that does not mean that WE Americans can support injustice just because it is going against the rival power Russia. The bottom line is that Georgia attacked first; they attacked civilians. Russians fought on behalf of the Ossetians. Yet, the media has zero coverage on the devastation of the South Ossetian people. This is just ridiculous.

Why am I writing this? I do not know what else I can do. I must speak the truth. I am paying taxes to the US government, which supports Georgia, which in turn bombs my homeland; in other words, I am funding the destruction of my own people. How can I keep quiet?

Why is it that these communists that so love their country can't bring themselves to live among the ashes of their beloved motherland, and stay the h_ll out of our country. My observations on the question you posed:

• They are treated like celebrities here.
• They make loads of money here (even becoming millionaires)
• They much prefer living in modern a country with working infrastructure.
• The weather is much better here than in Russia.
• The food is better here that in Russia.

Okay. Okay.
But it is just amazing to me how FR is full of posts claiming that the MSM is biased, doesn't tell the truth, favors Obama and the RATS, etc., etc. And I don't disagree. But when this dude, who is a Russian, makes a similar observation, we slam him. One thing I have observed is that most Russian immigrants to the US I have met are staunchly pro-American, support George Bush, and understand the reality of how fortunate they are to have escaped tyrrany. Maybe this guy is a kook. Maybe he is a commie plant. But he sounds like just a regular guy to me who has family over there, and as I said, things are not always as they seem. Just scratching my head here - not pointing fingers. I am just not ready to believe everything I have been spoonfed by the MSM, and I am willing to give this photographer the benefit of a doubt, that's all.

The fact that he omitted that he was a Russian national in this posting removes his credibility. He had a potential bias to begin with, and his failure to reveal that turned it from a potential bias into an actual one.

I think it's important that South Ossetians decide what leadership and culture they want to live under, and as they're essentially broken away from Georgia, one must assume that they don't want to be part of Georgia.

S. Ossetia is said to be a patch work of ethnic Georgians and Ossetians. Does the Georgian population have a right to remain part of Georgia or does it only work the other way around? Abkahzia cleansed their territory of ethnic Georgians in the 90s but only were able to finish the job now by destroying the last few Georgian towns in the region.

Merging with Georgia seems to me to be a wiser policy then merging back with Russia. Expecting that Russia will somehow support an independent Abkhazia is a pipe dream. The Abkhazians should have worked with the Georgians to create an autonomous region with strong ties to the Georgian government.

I suspect the decision makers in Abkhazia are Russian puppets.

So, the Georgians hate the Ossetians so much that that there is wanton slaughter unless the Ossetians are protested by the Russians. I’ve seen these people on TV, and, seriously, how do they tell each other apart? They all look alike to me. How do they know who to kill?

The fact that he hid that he was Russian, which is CLEARLY relevant to his point of view, casts considerable doubt as to whether he is being truthful in his account.

Horsefeathers. The Russian's paid goons squads have been firing at Georgians from behind Russian military "peacekeepers" for weeks, while Russia moved its army into position to attack as soon as Georgia did anything about it. This is about as much a matter of Georgian aggression as Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939. Anybody remember the ridiculous got-up "border incidents" that era's fascists tried to use to justify their invasions? Anybody fall for it, or care? Also, just as a credibility issue, Abkhazian mass murderers drove a hundred thousand Georgians (a large majority of the population) from the province in the early 90s by open ethnic cleansing, murder with torture, etc, all with Russian support. Abkhazians talking about other people's aggression are about as credible as the Waffen SS whining they are victims.

And I would be inclined to believe it more if Russia wasn’t still in Georgia, still moving troops across the area that has nothing to do with the South Ossetians, just today threatened to NUKE Poland for daring to allow the US a defense system in that area...

See, had Russia only defended the people it claimed were attacked, I would be not so ready to believe the media. But given what I have said above, I do not find Russia as the victim here. As Daniel Usenko has implied.

What do these countries know that we don’t? That’s right, they lived under Russian domination and can see through this BS. I have worked with men from Russia and Ukraine -all speak Russian and all have Soviet college degrees and US law degrees - I really like them, but they don’t care for each other. Of course you are correct that Georgia's aggression against South Ossetia ignited this whole issue, anyone who cannot see this must have blinkered vision. The 95%+ Russian population in south Ossetia were under threat from Saakashvili and his troops.

South Ossetia is/was 30% ethnic Georgia.

So. Ossetia rebels(terrorists) were shelling ethnic Georgian villages in South Ossetia. That's when Georgia responded.
