This appears to be the talking point in all the smear pieces related to this book. Does anyone have any definitive proof that this is so? I don't remember hearing that this information was discredited. Repeat a lie often enough...
Dear Mr. Robinson:
Let's get this story right. John Kerry's own lies damaged John Kerry's 2004 Presidential campaign. His activities in Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), while still holding his commission in the U.S. Naval Reserves, played a big role in his demise. Vietnam Veterans have long memories, as do their families. Add to that, his 1971 meeting with the Viet Cong & North Vietnamese officials in Paris during the peace negotiations, again, while he was still in the Naval Reserves. Douglas Brinkley's book entitled "Tour of Duty," (based on Kerry's own service diary), was found to have several factual errors including Kerry's claims of a Christmas Eve boat ride into Cambodia which never occurred, plus Kerry's statements that President Nixon was behind the excursion. Oh wait! Nixon wasn't even in office at the time. And what about Kerry's claims that he threw "his medals" over the fence during that Washington demonstration? Well, it turns out they weren't even his own medals; they were someone else's. His are hanging on his office wall in Washington. There are plenty other Kerry claims to refute, but I won't bother to include them, since it's obvious you could care less about the truth. By the way, what is it about Senator Obama that you don't want the public to know? Corsi's just doing the job the mainstream media refuses to do. Could it be that you are all afraid that you might hear something about your candidate that you won't like? It sure sounds like it to me.
The media's failure to thoroughly research and report factually on all the candidates, is what has caused the continuous downslide of newspaper subscriptions and the ensuing loss of media jobs across the country. The public isn't stupid. We can see past the screen of deceit. No one wanted to report about the John Edwards affair, but as it turns out, it was the truth. The press claimed they couldn't report it because they didn't have enough evidence. Yet, the New York Times had no problem insinuating, in print, an affair between John McCain and a female lobbyist. Where was their evidence for that story? It's this kind of hypocrisy that ticks off the public. And before you come to any conclusion, I am not a McCain fan. I just don't like double standards. Journalists are supposed to be impartial, but that hasn't been the case for many years. As of today, the news media is an endangered species, and headed toward extinction. They've gone to the Dark Side and can't be trusted to report the facts as they find it, or they choose to fabricate stories, and steal from other people's work. Mark my words, there will be plenty of other journalists who go the way of Peter Arnett, Stephen Glass, Jayson Blair, and Dan Rather.
Jerome Corsi and The Swiftboat Veterans for Truth didn't have to fabricate lies about Senator Kerry. Kerry did that for them. They just refuted his claims of greatness during his 3-month tour of duty in Vietnam. Having a brother who volunteered for the U.S. Army, and who spent 12 months in the jungles of Vietnam, I found Kerry's anti-war activities, his embellished tales of bravery, and his questionable claims of injuries to be offensive to all Vietnam Veterans. My brother got medals too, but he never bragged about them, and we never saw them until after his death at the young age of 51. Its been my experience that most Veterans who have experienced the horrors of war, do not want to talk about those experiences to anyone. Part of the reason is because the memories are not pleasant. The other part is out of respect for the men (and women) who didn't make it back. To those who did come home, the real heroes are those who lost their lives in service to our country. On the other hand, Senator Kerry couldn't remind us enough that he had "served in Vietnam," and the press kept reminding us what a great hero he was. Those of us who were of age at that time, those who had either served during the war, or knew others who did, and didn't return, were turned-off by this, especially in light of the war Kerry had waged against his fellow Vets and our country when he returned home.
So keep protesting Jerome Corsi's new book, because the more the press demonizes him, the longer it will keep his book on the New York Times Bestseller's List.
Excellent post! Well put! WELL PUT INDEED! Anyone who defames these men in any way is automatically on the other side in my opinon, and dead wrong too.
