Their doctrine is pretty much that they can attack anyone they wish with nuclear weapons. We are back in the cold war with these mad dogs.

I’m sure the Poles appreciate being threatened with Russian nukes again.

Proof that Poland *needs* Bush’s missile defenses.

Bring it.

The first thing I thought when I heard those idiots had a massed convoy of 100 vehicles heading down a single road to Tbilisi was what a few A-10s would make it look like.

” Their doctrine is pretty much that they can attack anyone they wish with nuclear weapons. “

Admitting to a “first use” doctrine is a line that, to my knowledge, the Soviets never crossed...

This is disturbing, to say the least....

The Poles will not be cowed by such threats anymore.

Russian mouths are writing checks that their asses can't cash.

I think it shows Putin et al have thier sites on recreating the old empire long term, they don’t want any western meddling, particularly nuclear defense shields from the US.

Mother Russia still holds considerable influence over Cuba. I wonder if we should warn them that any attempt to assist the Cubans militarily would result in nuclear retaliation. If we’re going to have another cold war with these commies, let’s do it right and reassert the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) Doctrine. I never trusted them anyway.

My gut reaction is to want to say that Russia is over-reacting here. But I can’t help be reminded of the Cuban missile crisis. The U.S. reaction to having missiles 90 miles off our coast is fairly analogous to the Russian reaction over this issue. Even though deep down I really want to find a way to criticise Russia over this, I’m having a hard time justifying a reason to myself.

Russia considers this as a provocation. But the real provocation is Putin's arm sales to Iran (especially air defense missiles), his sales of uranium that Iran is making into nuclear weapons that it has promised to use against Israel, his sales of weapons that go to Hezbollah that are used to kill Israelis, his sales of weapons to Syria, and his sales of weapons to Hugo Chavez. He's the provocateur and the rogue.

Isn’t there a Polish saying;”We’ll kill the Germans for revenge, and we’ll kill the Russians for pleasure.”? There is no love shared between them, even during the cold war, the Poles weren’t considered a major threat in the Warsaw Pact.

This is bluster. The Russians aren’t going to push east as they’d encounter too much resistance, also, they’ve got Europoe already under their thumb for an energy viewpoint. South is now the path of least resistance, possibly through Armenia or Azerbaijan into Iran. That has a greater potential of economic disruption with less cost. Russia cannot take the west on militarily, but by further consolidation of oil and gas reserves they can slowly squeeze the west and Europe in particular.

Putin is furious, he may allow his emotions now to get the better of hom and overplay his hand. But I do believe now south is the direction they move.
