The embryonic stem cell “researchers” “harvest” ALL the organs of human persons while their owners are most certainly alive. (And John McCain supports it.)
No moral difference between that and taking a living, healthy adult, strapping them to a table, and cutting out their organs for the “benefit” of someone else.
The only practical difference is that the adult might be able to fight back.
One of my personal favorites. That one is (I think) the only Known Space novel that references the Organ Banks. Most of the Gil the A.R.M. novellas deal with it at least tangentally, if not directly. These are collected (most recently) in Flatlander. I recall that there is an organ bank-related short story in the Known Space collection as well (the one about the guy sentenced to death for running a stop sign...the name of the story escapes me).
For the uninitiated, these stories are set in a near future where organ transplantation has become almost risk-free. Most diseases are thus easily cured, and people grow accustomed to living long, healthy lives. The unintended consequence of this is because there is always a shortage of young, healthy organs a supply must be created somehow. This is accomplished by sentencing all criminals to death.
Please FreepMail me if you want on or off my Pro-Life Ping List.
Actually, it's getting quite a bit of MSM coverage, for example:

I bet my liver can drink your liver under the table!
My liver is so full of holes, that it doesn't hold anything anymore. LOL!!!
>> citing statistics saying they will never recover
In short, there’s motivation to terminate the organ donor’s life despite ethics, morality, and the Constitution.

The problem is, you can't be sure of that.
Mine will be of value only as curiosities.
If the criterion for death is that the heart has stopped beating, then heart transplants become impossible. The other organs become problematic, since they have to be harvested in a very short time after the heart stops beating. Kidneys have the longest time.
I’m an organ donor and I have no problem with the definition of death. I’m not afraid of death, and I believe that God will protect me from death until it’s time for me to go. The man that woke up on the operating table is an example of what God will do to protect us until it’s time to depart.
what. a. nightmare.
:-(
I believe you’re right. They will take them without consent, and claim they belong to the govt.
