SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― A lawsuit filed by conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage against a Muslim civil rights group came to an end Thursday when Savage's lawyer told a federal judge in San Francisco that he won't try to amend it.
Savage sued the Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, known as CAIR, last year after it posted on its Web site a four-minute excerpt of anti-Islamic comments by Savage along with a critique of his words.
Savage made the comments during an Oct. 29, 2007, broadcast of The Savage Nation, a nationally syndicated show based in San Francisco.
They included remarks that "you can take (CAIR) and throw them out of my country" and that Muslims were "screaming for the blood of Christians or Jews or anyone they hate."
Last month, U.S. District Judge Susan Illston dismissed the lawsuit. She permanently dismissed Savage's claim of copyright infringement, saying that CAIR's posting of the comments for the purposes of criticism was protected by the right of free speech.
But the judge said Savage could try to amend a second claim of racketeering by trying to show specific alleged financial harm by CAIR to his business. She gave Savage a deadline of Friday.
In a notice filed Thursday, attorney Daniel Horowitz said Savage decided not to file an amended racketeering claim.
In an unusual three-page filing, Horowitz told the judge that he had prepared a 116-page amended lawsuit, but that Savage decided not to file it because of "factors arising out of this litigation but taking place (or potentially have an effect) outside of this litigation."
The court filing gave no details, but in a telephone interview Horowitz said the factors included an alleged phone threat to Savage. Horowitz said he wasn't accusing the Islamic group of making threats, but said Savage didn't want to take the risk that the case could inspire a "lone nut" to try to harm his family.
CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said the Islamic organization had "nothing whatsoever" to do with any threats and that any allegations to that effect would be "scurrilous."
Hooper said, "It's clear that this baseless and frivolous lawsuit wasn't going anywhere and he decided to cut his losses."
Savage has recently come under fire from parents of autistic children for alleging on his July 16 show that 99 percent of autism cases are actually cases of misbehaving children whose parents don't discipline them.
I believe it. With the Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) and "cheap labor" Republicans pressuring to "keep 'em comin'" there are tens of thousands of CAIR-like radicals here ILLEGALLY.
Some are no doubt trained in the tactics that intimidate talk show hosts and book publishers.
I think it's more likely that he couldn't prove economic harm.
The court ruled properly on the fair use aspects of the case, in my opinion. The fair use doctrine is essential to the operation of this web site.

one would think that they would realize that their gig could be up if the PC groups had their way, then their livelihood would threatened
i’ve mostly given up listen on a reg basis to rush and sean, it’s all the same thing for the most part, support the president and his odd and seemingly damaging policies to our country, and not a nod or mention of savage and what he exposes
sure savage can be abrupt, in your face, but i’d rather have that, in someone who speaks his mind about what’s happening than repub establishment butt kissers
savage has more in common with the regular american along the lines of what the battlegrounds are and what we are experiencing and thinking about the decline of our beloved country and the COMPLETE unwillingness of our president, and his tow-the line talk show hosts to see things as they are in the trenches, with the average american and the hardships these sell america, screw american industry and technology are doing to my beloved country

CAIR had sued to put him out of business claiming that his site's name was too close to theirs.
CAIR backed off when they realized that he would have I think they call it "discovery." To wit, they would be compelled to turnover information about their operations that they did not want people to know.
Sorry I cannot remember his name but there was the Washington, D.C. host who was fired -- I think that he's in Los Angeles now.
As far as I know the guy I mentioned who was fired from a Sacramento station did not fight back, one reason might be because he had the ILLEGAL alien "rights" groups after him, gays after him, Gov. SchwarzenKennedy supporters after him, the city rag after him -- I did hear him filling in on another station where he said that he was fired because he would not support "gay marriage."

Is anyone surprised that the Weiner would be pimping for Putin? Moonbeam Brown, and now Putin. Tyrants like each other's company I guess.
Weiner was also blaming the US Government for not coming to his defense against CAIR. Weiner often blames the US for things, such as Putin's push into Georgia.
I have an accurate answer for that if you care to hear it again.

Try listening with common sense and rationale. If you do, you would realize the grandiose fraud that is Michael Weiner, aka Savage.
