Gori/Tbilisi - The troopers of Russia's 58th Army, fresh from chasing their US-trained Georgian opponents out of South Ossetia, are just in love with their NATO-issue loot.
'Check out this war trophy,' a T-62 tank commander named Viktor proudly pointed out to a Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa reporter. 'A real NATO-standard bayonet!'

There were piles of them in the depot over there,' said a sergeant name Oleg, pointing with his thumb to a plume of smoke rising from behind a hill. 'The Georgians just ran, they didn't even take their (expletive deleted) stuff with them.'

accusing the Russians of violating ceasefire terms (almost certainly) and systematically looting the Georgian countryside (of which independent observers have found little evidence.)An odd assertion in a story entitled "Russian Army Love its NATO Loot.

Yeah, T-34’s were bringing up the rear.
Sad, ‘cause the T-34’s are probably better.

The reporter doesn’t consider himself an “independent observer,” interviewing Russian soldiers showing him their loot?

My father used to tell me stories about Japanese ships picking up scrap metal in Philly before the war and the crew laughing about how they were going to turn all this stuff into weapons.
This article about the russian’s laughing and lording it over the weapons they captured for some reason reminded me of that story. After my father came back from the Pacific with the Marines he would tell that story and always end it with the comment “For all their laughing then, it didn’t end so well for the Japanese”
Me thinks it won’t end well for the Russians either some day.

I have news for you. If it doesn’t end well for the Russians, it won’t end well for us either. I really can’t believe how many delusional FReepers there are these days.
To: Farmer Dean
I’m willing to bet it’s a T-72 and the author of the piece made a mistake.

I have news for you. If it doesnt end well for the Russians, it wont end well for us either. I really cant believe how many delusional FReepers there are these days.
And I can't believe how many pro-barbarian shills there are on FR these days.
Get it through your head--we are not the Russians. And there will come a day when they will pay for what they're doing in Georgia.

I don't disagree with that. No sane person would. But what exactly do you mean by your statement that you can't believe how many delusional freepers there are these days?
