Clinton Backers Don't Buy Unity Theme
Pelosi Calls Agitators 'Less Than Gracious'
UPDATED: 6:56 am PDT August 14, 2008

WASHINGTON -- Still sore from an epic primary battle, some of Hillary Rodham Clinton's supporters aren't buying the unity theme planned for the Democratic National Convention.

They weren't mollified when nominee-in-waiting Barack Obama gave prime-time speaking slots to Clinton and her husband, the former president. Instead, they're itching for a fight and plan to wage one in Denver.

One group intends to paper the city with fliers, promote a video detailing what they contend were irregularities in the nominating process and unleash bloggers to give their take on the proceedings. Another group has purchased newspaper advertisements demanding that Clinton be included in a roll-call vote for the nomination.

"I am a very realistic woman," said Diane Mantouvalos, co-founder of the Just Say No Deal Coalition. "I don't think that anything is going to change, but I do think it is important to be heard, and this is our way of doing it."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took a swipe at the Clinton die-hards Wednesday.

"I think Hillary Clinton has been very gracious," the San Francisco Democrat told Bay Area talk show host Ronn Owens. "I think some of her supporters have been less than gracious."

I still don't understand how having her name in the nominating process is supposed to bring “unity”...wouldn't it just p*ss her supporters off all over again to see her lose...(My suspicion is she doesn't intend to lose ;o) )

Agree — no unity at this convention! I really think the DNC wants Hillary on the ticket now as they see Obama imploding a bit — and that the number of Hill’s supporters in the party will “force” the hand of Obama to put her on the ticket. OR, there’s also (though much less of) a chance that she will HEAD UP the ticket with Bambi as VP. Imagine that scenario!

Stay tuned folks; it’s gonna be a rocky ride!

“I still don’t understand how having her name in the nominating process is supposed to bring “unity”...”

It has nothing to do with unity. The Clinton supporters who are pushing this want a roll call vote in the vain hope that enough delegates will switch to nominate Mrs. Clinton. I heard just such a one on Fox today claiming that ‘no votes have been cast, it’s zero to zero in the vote count, we need a real vote’. He was refering to the delegates. I think Obama is smart enough to avoid such a vote and I imagine that many Clinton supporters would storm out of the convention after his victory.
