prayers for this man, regardless of political affiliation.
(Excerpt) Read more at cnn.com ...
Just heard the shooter was killed.
So far story doesn’t stem from a political motive...more like a psychotic episode from economic desperation of a job loss gone homicidal. No loss of a job EVER justifies murder.
Prayers sent
you have been at FR long enough to know better than to post trash like that.
That’s correct. Decent folks don’t. “ANY man’s death diminishes me...”
Honestly, when I’ve read some of the comments on a couple of these threads this afternoon.... I feel ashamed for those posters. I really don’t think they HEAR themselves...how unkind they sound. I do not want to be... I CHOOSE not to be.... like those folks I see quoted in the DUmmie FUnnies each day. I want my conduct to set me apart from people like that... Then again, we are all free to make fools of ourselves.....
Mr Gwatney didn’t deserve to be gunned down in this fashion....
Prayers for his friends and family. They will need them as they try to come to grips with the tragedy foisted upon them.

I've bought it at my Walmart here in central NY State.
The perp died too. No word yet as to his motive for shooting. I believe Gwaltny owned a Chevy dealership. I wonder if it could be related to that? Hopefully the killer said something to someone, or left some evidence as to why he did it.
I tried to find more info on Gwaltny's personal life, but didn't come up with anything via Google.
Shades of the Gracchi; the day is coming when violence is not an unusual response to politicking
He went postal.
((prayers))

What do we know about the suspect, so far?
1) he got a gun
2) he shot Gwatney
3) aside from what I’ve read on this thread, rumor (originating from where I don’t know) says he was upset over losing his job. (from Gwatneys dealership?? I don’t know)
He was 51 years old and white.
“It is terrible because in the US we do not celebrate the death of a political opponent.”
There was a good deal of cheering on VE and VJ day.
The Founders also celebrated after driving the British out of America, killing a good number of political opponents called Tories and their supporters.
I know nothing about this man and will say nothing one way or the other, but your blanket statement that we don’t celebrate the death of a political opponent is wrong.
Had you limited your regret to this one man, I would have agreed.
Not opponents in a cold or hot war situation.
That’s a shame.
Uhh - he's dead, Jim.
Perhaps you can observe your traditions and beliefs and let others do so too without your implied criticism.
perhaps
Sure seems to often be the case....
