MOSCOW, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on Tuesday he would pull his country out of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) grouping ex-Soviet states, Russian news agencies reported.

“The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) transliterated Sodruzhestvo Nezavisimykh Gosudarstv) is the international organization, or alliance, consisting of ten former Soviet Republics: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Turkmenistan discontinued permanent membership as of August 26, 2005, and is now an associate member. Georgia announced it would leave the CIS on 12th August 2008.”

“The CIS is headquartered in Minsk, Belarus. The chairman of the CIS is known as the Executive Secretary. All of the CIS’s executive secretaries have been from Belarus or Russia. Sergei Lebedev is the current executive secretary, and has been since October 2007.” Wikipedia

Please note, that Georgia loves the USA not because they're good guys, but they expect US help in their problems. The main of them is the Ossetian and Abkhazian issues.

Russia is pro-separatist, so choosing the USA seem natural.

If the regions can secede, the Georgian enthusiasm will fall very low.

The Ukraine's authorities problem with Russia is they have large pro-Russian (and pro-Soviet) part of the population.

Georgia cannot join NATO because they have foreign troops on its territory (see the NATO treaty). They'll join NATO once they have agreed that S.Ossetia and Abkhazia may go. Georgia will never agree to this.

Anyway, Georgian military actions against Russia haven't looked good so far. Russia says it won't go beyond Ossetia, so nothing to attack.

Georgia can still shell Russian positions but only if Russian recent actions on destroying Georgian military were unsuccessfull. But why do we need to guess? We will see it soon.

This is a very brave man. I just heard a past interview of his with Glenn Beck. He really fought corruption, believes in small govt and told his people their success is up to them.

Glenn is going to have him on his show tonight and I’m looking forward to hearing what he has to say.

Yes, he did. He fought corruption and was effectively placed into office via George Soros. George Soros has been trifling with the Indepeendent States, and while dancing with Russia for many years. Many of these Independent States eventually rejected The Open Society and because there were far too many interferences by George Soros/Open Society in matters political which were NONE of Mr. Soros' concern.

Georgia, too, saw the same in re Open Society.

So, when Russia asserts "American complicity" in matters re: Georgia, I have to ask myself which of John Edward's two Americas is Putin referring to: The George Soros or the George Bush America.

Your posts are pathetic.

Let’s see how brave Comrade Putin is should his country be under attack by hostile forces and have a possible enemy plane fly over him.

My guess is he’d run to his bunker faster than Hitler did.

That was performed by Saakashvili not me.

That's only your guess.

Russia says it won't go beyond Ossetia, so nothing to attack.

Let me see if I understand your post: Once having destroyed all Georgian armory; Russia intends to withdraw its presence to N/S Ossetia?

OR

Might you be suggesting that once Georgia militia/armory is out of commission, Russia intends to rename all of Georgia, Osetia?

He can’t do anything military, that’s for sure. Despite some US training, the Georgian military was overrun like nothing was there.

Russia demonstrated quite well that it can reduce any neighbor into a rubble. A prolonged occupation would start a guerrilla warfare, so I don’t think they will stay inside of Georgia for long, but in the short run they can do whatever they pleased. And nothing nobody can do, dam*it.

Misha, is it all you can do?

I'm sure he'll listen to any suggestions that you might have.Remember, however, that Georgia has about 3% of the USSR's population. What's happened to them is about equivalent to us invading Saskatoon.
