Georgian army flees in disarray as Russians advance

Georgia’s army was in complete disarray tonight after troops and tanks fled the city of Gori in panic and abandoned it to the Russians without firing a shot.

As Russian armoured columns rolled deep into central and western Georgia, seizing several towns and a military base, President Saakashvili said his country had been cut in half.

For the first time since the crisis erupted last Thursday, Russia admitted that its troops had moved out of Abkhazia, the other breakaway region under Moscow’s protection, and seized the town of Senaki in Georgia proper.

As for armor, Russians used 150 pieces, tanks, APCs but 150 together to push back Georgians.

Where do you got that information? As you know the coverage of the war is pretty bad.

Yes thanks. I found this from Reuters:

TBILISI (Reuters) - Russian troops have entered Georgia's Black Sea port of Poti, an oil and cargo shipping centre, Georgian Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze said on Monday.

"According to our information, Russian troops have entered Poti, as well as being in Senaki and Zugdidi," he said in a televised address, referring to two other towns in western Georgia.

The Russian defence ministry earlier said its forces had left Senaki. Russian bombers targeted Poti this week as part of an offensive to drive Georgian forces from the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

It was day one of Russian counter-offensive, georgians claimed there were 150 pieces of armor.
On US media they are comparind WHOLE of georgian and WHOLE of Russian armies.

“Saakashvili said that Russia has deployed about 150 of its armored vehicles in South Ossetia and added that Georgia’s forces has shot down two Russian planes engaged in bombing operations in its territory.

By Monday, the hostilities in the key transit route for oil and gas from the Caspian have reached an unpredictable situation after Georgian and Russian troops fought fierce battles overnight as Russian tanks advanced toward the Georgian city of Gori.”
......

The first shots were fired on Friday night. An unidentified number of Georgian troops moved into South Ossetia to restore there the control of the central government. Moscow’s response was as immediate as brutal: some 150 tanks and armored vehicles, supported by the air force and navy, were sent to help the pro-Russian republic.

Which makes me think--does Russia care what we might interpret as an act of war?

I think so. For one thing, they timed this action very carefully, most likely because it represents the most difficult possible time for us to formulate any serious response.

This is what the left accuses the US of, but which we never do. Now that their mentors in the Soviet Union are actually doing this, where are their screaming faces and protests? Oh, wait, I just answered my own question in that last rhetorical question.

They are on CNN blaming the U.S. and Georgia for provoking Russia. Sort of like claiming an abused spouse is responsible for his or her own beating or a rape victim wanted it.

We have a few of those types on this thread right now.

Do you imagine they think we have a much higher threshold than they do for what constitutes an act of war? I suspect they do.

Maybe this is the reason why Russians are advancing and Georgians retreating.

This is completely to be expected. It always happens. The really bad thing about it is, there are large numbers of Americans who will bang that drum mindlessly because it reinforces what they already think about the United States.

Do we defend Poland? They are even more of an ally than the Georgians or do we sell them out like we did in the second world war.

Poland is a NATO ally. No way we turn from a fight if they are attacked.

I am not impressed with pathos surrounding an invader army.

You left off part of "brytlea's"(susie's) original comment. She wrote:

I’m not sure anyone will risk open war with Russia.

not,

"Anyone will risk open war with Russia."

with a capital 'A', no less. Please be more careful in quoting people. However, on the 'big picture', the Russia-China-Iran-Chavez, etc, etc alliance, you are 100% correct.

Here's one to add to your profile page quotes (from pg 129 of Jerome Corsi's book, Obama Nation):

"When classmates in college asked me just what it was that a community organizer did, I couldn't answer them directly. ... Instead I'd pronounce on the need for change. Change in the HWite House, where Reagan and his minions were carrying on their dirty deeds. Change in Congress, compliant and corrupt. Change in the mood of the country, manic and self-absorbed. Change won't come from the top, I would say. Change would come from a mobilized grass roots."

That is straight out of the Saul Alinsky school, just prior to the instructional pages which explain in detail how to create chaos, disorder, distrust, and destruction to the cutlure at hand in order to acquire power for the 'have nots' wrested by force of community organizing rending from the 'haves'. Obama was recruited to 'community organizing' by Jewish Marxists. He is their type of blackman.

Someone needs to take out Putin.

Unfortunately Putin is not the only problem. The Russian liberals should have pushed to have all the Commies and KGB types put on trial, liquidated, or at least rooted out of office everywhere. That should definitely be done by all the non-Russian nations of the former Soviet empire. Instead, they have allowed ex-Commies to reorganize and run for and win control of their govts. at times. The only good Commie is a dead Commie.
