Georgias army was in complete disarray tonight after troops and tanks fled the city of Gori in panic and abandoned it to the Russians without firing a shot.
As Russian armoured columns rolled deep into central and western Georgia, seizing several towns and a military base, President Saakashvili said his country had been cut in half.
For the first time since the crisis erupted last Thursday, Russia admitted that its troops had moved out of Abkhazia, the other breakaway region under Moscows protection, and seized the town of Senaki in Georgia proper.

I disagree, the Ewoks from the forest moon of Endor were better.
I am humbled by your most excellent knowledge of esoteric military tactics. You are certainly correct based on some documentary footage I've seen of the Ewoks in action!
Wouldn't they just apoint Pelosi as Commosar or Premier or something? I think it would just be a title change, not a leadership change.
Stupid.
“Swamp Fox Swamp Fox hiding in his den—nobody knows where the Swamp Fox been—Swamp Fox Swamp Fox feather in his hat—nobody knows where the Swamp Fox at!”
I have no idea where I remember that song from, must have been an old TV show back in the day.
susie
Which is precisely why the Sov...er...Russians took control of S. Ossetia, in order to deny Georgia its natural defensive perimeter. Whether they gobble up all of Georgia now or never, there is no longer any effective defense of the pipeline. Wars have been fought for centuries to get control of critical resources, but the U.S. has been dominated by business-school types like Bush, and other free-market open-borders fanatics who think we can always buy whatever we need. Obviously the Chinese and Russians don't believe that utopian garbage.
As an Air Force guy... I can say that tanks simply do not have what it takes to stand up to an A-10 :)
On the other hand if I were pounding the ground and all I had was my trust M16, M4 or my AR15, I’d be looking for a hole to hide in, and quickly. lol
Not a peep out of the left. Where’s that bitch Cindy Sheehan? Shouldn’t she be leading a protest at the Russian Embassy?
I think as an staunch ally, the president needs to land a few U.S. Airplaines and place a small contingency of American Troops and G-7 on the ground, daring the “Soviet Union/ KGB” leader (Putin) to cause harm to our troops. We have already stood them down once during the Berlin Airlift. Since Georgia is our Ally, the G-7 need to support them entirely
I'm sure that all your facts are correct, I really do.
However, Poland just doesn't have that good of a record against Russia. I'm thinking that the Poles will fight the good fight, but unless all the other former republics join up they might make a go of it.
I think they'll fight, like they always have. But the size of the Russian Army makes it just about impossible to a face to face war. They've used their weapons and in spite of what some may think, know how to wage war.
I'm just thinking now, well if Russia gets to kick the cr#p out of Georgia...... why can't we do the same to Venezuela?
The Monroe Doctrine still applies with Venezuela making a big show of aligning itself with Iran. Well good. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind, Chavez you b#tch.
I would love to see him stammer on about this and that while 82nd Airborne, Rangers or an MEU decides it's time to quit letting this fat tub of sh#t blow gas out his pie-hole.
Get your stupid rockets, jets, tanks and choppers Chavez.... just nice targets for our guys.
I'm not kidding either. The Russians have learned from history... kill one civilian, that's a tragedy.... kill a couple of hundred at a time..well the number is so overwhelming that it's just a number. Can you imagine the world wide condemnation about the civilian casualties if this were the United States taking back a breakaway area of California?...OH MY GAWD!!
The panties would be so twisted that every Marine and Army assigned to that FAO would be in prison. .... or we would have the pathetic wussies whining about our callous military.
Do you see any Russian legal officers taking their soldiers or commanders to court for using Multiple rockets in a civilian center? Or p#ssing about Rules of Engagements?? gee, do ya think?
What about the "churches" or places of worship? Nope not a peep.
How 'bout the innocent children...? Not a peep.
Two faced hypocrites from the left make me want to puke. That's why I think every Jag-off that brings charges against our guys needs to pull a year with a rifle platoon OUTSIDE the wire for giggles.
They don't need to "assault" Tblisi.
Think about it for a couple of minutes and look at the map.
As an example. If you were to blockade New York City's harbors, hold all the entry points to the bridges and tunnels for the city and then just maybe.... blow up a couple of pumping stations, power plants and sewage facilities....how long before New York ceases to be an organized city. 2 maybe 3 days, tops.
The Russians don't have to take Tblisi. They can take away the things that make Tblisi a city.
On the other hand if I were pounding the ground and all I had was my trust M16, M4 or my AR15, Id be looking for a hole to hide in, and quickly. lol
nothing metal with tracks is "warthog-proof"...
As far as being in a fixed position and hiding in a hole from an Abrams combined atttack using our current tactics of combining infantry, choppers, jets flying CAP and tanks.........A hole wouldn't help anybody... you'd just facilitate your burial. There are a couple of thousand witnesses buried in the sands of Kuwait that can back me up on that. lol....
Yes sir! I agree with your most everything you say.
If you haven’t read “Rising 1945” about the battle for Warsaw, I highly recommend it!
You mean “Rising 44”. I recommend any and all books by Norman Davies.
“Georgian army flees in disarray as Russians advance”
Never enough Panzerfausts!
Yeah, that’s very true. I’ve seen some of the videos coming out of choppers...
EU is considering sending in peace keepers.
If the BBC is supporting Georgia, than Russia has gone too far.
