Anna Quindlen: The Caucasian Card (Ultra Barf Alert)
Newsweek ^ | August 9, 2008 | Anna Quindlen

Posted on 08/11/2008 9:35:42 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Much of America's political conversation is couched in code. And so it was that recently the McCain campaign accused Barack Obama of playing the "race card," two four-letter words that, taken together, trail a wealth of innuendo like a comet's tail.

Using the term "race card" as a pejorative is almost always meant to promulgate the big lie that takes hold everywhere from the workplace to the classroom: that black men and women commonly use race as a bludgeon and an excuse, and that they will always blame failures or disagreements on racism.

This is belied by objective reality. To hear tell, you would believe that the world is chockablock with minority lawyers, teachers, construction workers and police officers who spend all their time complaining about institutional racism, calling others out on offensive jokes and assumed stereotypes. But most of us encounter the opposite, the silence of people who learned a long time ago that to get along it's imperative to go along.

In part this is because they're carrying a load on their shoulders. When one of the white guys blows an account, the office line is that he's a loser. But when a black guy does it, it means that they—that's the all-purpose "they," sometimes used interchangeably with "those people"—don't seem to be able to close the deal. Same goes for women, which is one reason the Clinton-Obama rivalry got so pitched during the primaries. Our piece of the pie is small, and often there's only one fork. When someone like Senator McCain says he's opposed to quotas, it sounds like country-club code for "We liked the pie the old way."

Of course there is also affirmative action for well-to-do whites, from legacy college admissions to the old boys' club of hiring and connections.

Remember how RFK got "hired"?

Only in the US do we use the idiotic term "caucasian", which is rooted in 19th century junk science. What is wrong with "white" or "European American" anyway?

I was actually hoping this would be an article on the implications of the Russian/Georgian war in the Caucases, but its more whining by MoDo.

I thought I had forgotten about Ann (have I mentioned abortion lately) Quindlen. That's a sobriquet I gave her when she was writing her regular columns which many times had abortion "rights" as the main topic.

First and foremost Quindlen, like all femi-nazis, is a liar and a hater of traditional America. Businesses who shun minorities or females who are superior to white males soon suffer business-wise. By any sane comparison Obama suffers next to McCain. Obama is a arrogant, non-achieving Dem pol who is only where he is because of his voice and his physical appearance.

"a beauty"

College admission requirements, old-style, never had the heavy of government telling them who they could or could not let in. Rich people (white, black, or whatever) will always have an advantage over the non-rich. That's a fact of life.

CORRECTION: More whining by Quindlen. I always get her and MoDo confused!

"affirmative action recipient"

The sad part is that people let in under aa will always have a stigma. They will never get the respect they would have earned under normal conditions.

"outright advantages"

Yes, the rich always have an advantage over those who are not. What else is new? It was the same for me. I'm white, but the rich kids in town had a much better head start than me and my siblings. Big deal, life is not fair. Being born in America is a great equalizer to not being born rich. Anyone with ability and determination can make it.

Unfortunately there are those who want “guilds” and “American royalty” (like the Kennedy Klan) which our ancestors tried to leave in the “old world”.

Why is it that the majority of leftist women are plug-ugly? Or, is it just my imagination, running away with me....?

It's the ugly in their thinking, not their faces, that's the problem. She's wearing the face God gave her, the same as anybody else. But the warped thinking is all her own.

I do find it disturbing the way some freepers focus so much on people's looks, as though whether they would "hit it" is the only consideration. Sex offenders are deemed 'guilty' or 'not guilty' based on how pretty they are. It is the one thing I do not like about some conservatives.

FROM THE ARTICLE: “it's probable that at least a few of his classmates would have assumed that his place came to him because he was, in the words of Stephen L. Carter's book title, an affirmative-action baby. That's another weight that successful black Americans carry, the suspicion that they got to wherever they've gone because of special pleadings”.

Don't ya just love the way Libs twist reality.....first we are supposed to feel guilty enough to enact Affirmative Action to help the poor down trodden Blacks.....then we are supposed to feel guilty if we even think that a Black man may have benefited by AA......wasn't that the point ??...........oh, I get it...they are supposed to get special help , but we have to pretend that they didn't and succeeded without it!!.....you can't win with these RACE BAITERS...Black or White !

I’ll give you that. The focus on looks can be unseemly. It may be the combination of their thoughts, physical characteristics, and grooming habits that conspire to create a generally unappealing picture of leftist or radical feminist females.

Quota Queen Quinlin is 100% dead wrong.

The race card is definitly used to cover up the inadequate just as the gender card is used to cover up the inadequate.

I think this is more about the fact that Hillary Clinton has reared her over thighed head again with the “edwards angle”. (she would have won but for edwards)

If there is any proof of the covering for the inadequate jsut look at all universities and how they have deteriorated as the universities have a uniformly adoped unspoken whisper quotas.

actually code is right

polical correctness = thought crime

hate crime = thought crime

free speech = only leftist ideals are free to be spoken

revolutionary = old leftist policy being implimented

regressive = conservative policy being implimented

jobs based on content of character rather than color of skin = race and gender quotas

feminist = quotas

Title IX = boys and men need not attend this college

Judicial independence = judges free to impose leftist dogma with impunity
