While we are indeed friends with Georgia, it is ridiculous though to think we should get involved in a direct war with Russia over this. I do think we should provide them with intelligence and as much equipment as possible.
Getting involved with this on a direct combat standing would be absolutely stupid. The Russians are idiots and i think this will cost them dearly. We should do like we did in the Cold War and stir up trouble for them by provoking the Ukraine, Moldavia and the Balitc Republics. In addition, we should go ahead and level Iran while they are busy.
Agree with post #20.

I couldn't disagree more.
Going to war over rebellious regions is one thing. Going to war over a strong ally in the WOT and a key oil exporter that keeps Russia from dictating foreign policy to Europe with its oil is another. Georgia is key to our European allies independence from Russia and to our credibility in the world.
If Russia has invaded Georgia proper, Bush should return from the Olympics now, and we should moving forces and equipment into Georgia ASAP.
If true, this is starting to look like one of those reading to kindergartner dear in the headlight moments. He needs someone to take him by that hand and tell him what this means.
BS!
We went to war over Kuwait, then we go to war over Georgia!
Allies are allies regardless of the threat they face.
If it becomes clear that the Russians are not going to stop, then we need to start.
Anything else to me is raw cowardice.
Really? How will it cost them? All it proves is that America’s promises are worthless, and they have the strength and ruthlesness to destroy those who oppose them.
This is total win for the Sov, er, Russians.
Terrific post.
