TBILISI, Georgia Russia opened a second front of fighting in Georgia on Monday, sending armored vehicles beyond two breakaway provinces and seizing a military base and police stations in the country's west, the Georgian government and a Russian official said.

The sheep are selective in who their sympathy falls upon.
I hope this makes a few Obama supporters feel like morons. They think the whole world is nicey nicey or something I dunno. Wake up guys or do y’all need someone to hit the back of your head with a history book?
Russia ain’t going nothing with Iran except aiding them, not us.
He should have been on a plane back to here the moment Russia invaded Georgia. I would say something about priorities, but it would do no good.
I support that plan. I think you’ve outlined a reasoned approach to conventionally opposing Russian action in Georgia. At the very least, it limits what actions they will be allowed to take.
If Russia wants to escalate beyond that, then it’s their choice. Then we mop the floor with them.
I have kept my eye on some of our munitions. Some of them are simply magical in their scope. They can level a whole section of armored vehicles with one drop. I don’t think Putin has anything like that at his disposal.
At the very least, it would make him have to pay a very heavy price for attaining any goal he may have. I’m convinced we could stop him in his tracks if we wanted to.
They're too busy plotting against Bush and providing sourced data to tabloid anti-Bush authors to have seen this coming. Our intelligence community is a joke these days. We're paying for Bush's stupid 'New Tone'.
I sure hope you are right... I’ll be praying for those making the decisions right now - that’s for sure... This is a tricky and dangerous game Russia is playing (dangerous for us as well). I think things are definitely going to get worse before they get better...
He’s not getting any now is he? In any case the rest of us are being greased up so grab your ankles.
BS!
We went to war over Kuwait, then we go to war over Georgia!
Allies are allies regardless of the threat they face.
If it becomes clear that the Russians are not going to stop, then we need to start.
Anything else to me is raw cowardice.
An interesting comment. It raises the very interesting question of what's really behind the Russian action. I think there's probably something else afoot here ... and it probably involves Georgia only in a peripheral sense.
Of course, I have no idea what the true Russian motives might be ... but (unlike us) they're chess players, and this is just an opening move.
They want to see how committed we are defending Taiwan.
As hard as it may be to believe, we are at a crossroads of epic significance.
All tyrants deal with useful idiots in such a fashion once they take control.
Yes, American better ask itself, as distasteful as the choices are, in light of the reality in the world that we are seeing...just which of these two will we want at the helm facing off against a Putin...particularly since these are the only two real choices that have any chance of actually becoming President:
Why ? Putin was 2 seats away from him at the Olympics - seems to me that he was in just the right place for some diplomacy. He left the Olympics on the same day IIRC as Putin.
Isn’t that what everyone wants ? Jawbone before war ?
I’m now waiting for the Dems to chastise Bush for NOT being a cowboy...
I agree. And it is probably only the opening move of a pivotal, world-wide chess game.
Of course not. the Russians have been biding their time. Nothing has changed for them, they still consider us as their enemy. Bush was completely wrong about Putin. Absolutely wrong. The good news is that McCain never bought his BS for a minute...I feel better about a McCain Presidency already.
Oh come on ................. The Euro's have been collapsing before the islam-a-nazies for years and you think they will stand up against the islam-a-nazies mentors?
Geeze. You do nothing but bitch and moan. If you’re so spiffy-swell, why don’t you get off your ass and do something real?
The Russians are serious and I believe this is just an opening move in a much larger, far reaching policy, that they hope will turn back the clock 20 years.
We need to check mate them right there, and do so in such a way that makes it clear that we are not going futher than protecting Georgia, but that by God, shows them we will protect Georgia, Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, etc., etc. fro their aims and their naked agression.
I figure you must have read somewhere that he left on Saturday, the same day Puti left. Bush left on Monday(Or Sunday if the papers are using a different time zone).

I would hazard a guess this is a loud message to the rest of the former Soviet states to become cooperative and to the Ukraine to become much more cooperative about the Black Sea Fleet. Also, this will cut off the 'stans from the West and give Russia control over their energy resources.
