Txt 4 Veep: Obama To Announce VP Pick Via Text Message, Email (not making this up..)
MediaBistro via Drudge ^ | 10 August 2008

Another sign of The Technological Times: Sen. Barack Obama announced today -- via Twitter -- that he would announce "the VP candidate sometime between now & the Convention by txt msg & email."

This isn't merely a way to practice Hip Politics. As has been reported already, the Obama campaign has made tremendous use of text message, most notably by encouraging attendees of various campaigns events to send a text message to the Obama campaign. This allows the campaign to not only increase their supporter database, but also send potential Obama voters information about voting stations, dates, times and campaign news.

Obama's decision to announce his veep pick via text message is unique, but one has to wonder if word won't leak out beforehand, in one of those tragically unhip, traditional mainstream media outlets.

By announcing this way, he doesn’t have to deal with pesky reporters, live microphones, and a great propensity to insert “uh”s 73 times per sentence.

“This isn’t merely a way to practice Hip Politics...”

Shouldn’t that read: Hip-HOP politics?

He must realize by now that his strongest demographic is young and tech savvy. It seems rather insulting to whoever the sap is who agreed to do this, as well.

This is just more shiftiness from Obama.

It allows him to put up a "trial" balloon. If he gets a lot of negative feedback, he can claim a technical glitch and change his pick.

Is this to replace a press release completely? I’d love a text when McCain announces his veep because I’m an info junkie, but for it to be the sole source would be pretty lame....

Wow...Look at Mr. Cool...He's gonna text message us...and with photos.

Look at Mr. Cool...Visiting Grandma

Mr. Cool...Doing Cocaine as a youth...

Mr. Cool's wife...Looks like Oprah.

Mr. Cool in Muslim garb.

Mr. Cool saying "Killing Babies is "Freedom".

He's the ultimate gang leader.

Nahh..this is just another way to create hype and chatter. I’m sure he’ll have a more formal announcement with a joint appearance- but this is classic Obama. Hype, hype, hype, not a bit of substance in sight.

This shifts attention to “how cool” and will result in lots of talk..when will he send it...will he do it during the Olympics...the morning of the convention..the night before.

Empty, meaningless CHATTER.

Still wondering if Mr. Cool qualifies as a qualified applicant for President.

Is he?

From the comments at Media Bistro:

"Hope no one gets hurt or killed while driving when Obama text messages.

Wouldn't it be something if several people die in car accidents while trying to read their text messages from Obama?"

Just giving BO a taste of his own medicine.

It would sure be funny if he accidentally sent the wrong text out to millions: “Same time, same place. You got the limo and the blow?”

In the same vein- how many accidents or blowouts will result from people over-inflating their tires..

IF this is true, it’s a stupid decision by Hussein. All they are trying to do is to appeal to younger voters and appear fresh and on the cusp of change. It’s shallow and the people who vote won’t like it.
