That was the most amazing spectacle so far in these Olympics.
The “Fwench”man Bernard said ‘WE WILL SMASH THE AMERICANS”.
Of course Phelps and co, didnt say anything, but the expression on Frenchie’s face after the race was priceless. He couldn’t even look the Americans in the face. I’m not the biggest swimming fan, but when I watched, it was an adrenaline rush for American viewers.
I LOVED it!
GO USA
It really was amazing.
They pulled it out in the last few feet of the end.
Wow!
That was Rowdy Gaines saying the French would win. And on paper and based on past performances, the French should have won. And it looked like France was going to win. Right until the very end. What a great finish!!!!!!!!! And don’t diss Rowdy! He had called all the races before pretty accurately. (today. i didn’t watch earlier coverage.)
I was telling my children, “I have that guy’s autograph from 1984 when he won gold at the LA Olympics.” If there’s any reason to give Mr. Gaines grief, it’s ‘cuz he went to Aubarn!!!!!!!!
Way to go US swimmers! Great race! I love their attitude about keeping quiet and letting their swims do the talkin’.
i think Costas said the first five teams came in under record time... that’s amazing...
Who’s got the SUMMER Olympic’s PING LIST???
If someone makes one..
Please ADD ME!
:-)
GO TEAM USA!
That was fun to watch. The French guys who were promising to smash the Americans looked like someone peed on their Brie.
I was just lounging around watching it, not caring all that much. But by the end, I was on my feet shouting.
It was a thing of beauty :-D
Any chance this might be on video somewhere on the internet?
Blogger describes amazing finish...
Check out the comments at the bottom. Interesting...
That was sweet!!!
I said “Bernard is French for SILVER”. That got me a look.
Did most of America get to see this event live?
I did not see it, but what thrilling news to awaken to. I cannot imagine a finer or more delicious way to deliver the lesson to Mr Bernard that, in competition, heart is more important than mouth.
Yes, it was HUGH!
Phelps, the first swimmer, got a nice lead, the middle two kept it close and the last swimmer had the swim of his life while the French closer clearly tightened up in the last 25 meters.
Once again, a case of a team beating itself by talking trash and firing up their opponents. You’d think athletes would learn that you don’t need to give your highly competitive opponents extra reasons to want to beat you.
They analyzed the swimmers and the math said France. France should have won. However, they forgot the “America” factor.
