USA: Texas execution violates international law
Amnesty.ORG ^ | 08 August 2008 | Amnesty.ORG

Posted on 08/10/2008 8:13:47 PM PDT by davidosborne

The execution of José Ernesto Medellín Rojas by the state of Texas is a violation of international law, said Amnesty International today. "It undermines the authority of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which had ruled in favour of a stay of execution."

Amnesty International—helping political prisoners, unless they’re still in utero.

Congress can, of course, write legislation that would implement terms of the the treaty, but it has not. The ICJ cannot authorize the President to by-pass Congress.

Headline?

Daughters of World Court member beaten, raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered
Court reverses stand on death penalty

When it happens to the "little people" it just a statistic and some noble ideal to debate.

#1 - the International Court has NO jurisdiction here.

#2 - when are we not violating some international law of some type?

The one thing I don’t understand is these groups also insist that US police forces are not allowed to ask criminals their nationality when picked up. How are the police supposed to know that someone is an illegal alien unless the suspect speaks up? This piece of s... was in America for 15 years and spoke decent English, how were the police supposed to know to contact the consulate?

Just out of curiosity what would have happened if the SC had ruled against Texas and Texas showed some balls and told them the IC has no jurisdiction over Texas and to take its ruling and shove it and executed the son of a bitch anyway?
