Not only are the "reasons" largely specious to begin with, but we should be focused on showing Mr. McCain in as positive light as possible, and reminding people that Mr. Obama is far too leftist to ever be an acceptable candidate in these United States, especially with the Democrats having both houses.
The dangers of having an equally leftist Pelosi running the House with an Obama presidency cannot be overstressed --- they have an agenda going from wild spending on everything from a United States "National Health Service" to Mr. Obama's "Global Poverty Act" proposal which would dump vast amounts of taxpayer money into U.N. projects (S.2433), to destroying our military and missile defense, and from there on to more extortionate taxation --- and enacting even some of that agenda would leave a grim future for our children.
While there's nothing wrong with discussing such strategic considerations among other professionals, broadcasting such is not helping us in the strongest way against Senator Obama. Yes, it does lead one to think that the Obama campaign is weak, and that Mr. Obama is a weak candidate, as he indeed is, but conceding items that are not even true is not the wisest way to present Mr. Obama's weaknesses.
Public appearances by Republican strategists at this point should be focused on winning on the race, not on the mechanics of handicapping.
If he can ever latch onto an issue (energy?) that gives voters a reason to be enthusiastic about voting FOR him instead of just against Obama, he'll wind up winning this thing.
That makes two of us. I am sick and tired of how Obama should be way ahead of McCain and the doom and gloom about McCain that comes out of their mouths. Personally don't think Rove is all that happy that McCain is doing so well and wants it to be against Obama not for McCain. Wish our pundits would shut up for a month or more -- tired of all of the doom and gloomers on the Republican side. Rove never will admit that the Swift Boat Veterans won that race as his ego is way too large.

**grave doubts about the Illinois senator.**
That’s the understatement of the day, I believe!
**down to Oregon this time**
I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Oregon goes for McCain.
I really haven’t seen that many signs or bumper stickers yet.
