The explosion seen from the Keele Overpass Image: Michael Gil.
A large explosion has been reported at a propane depot in northern Toronto on Keele Street, near the Highway 401, at approximately 3:48am EST. The cause is currently unknown.
A person who was 10km from the explosion told Wikinews that "my house shook 10 km away. The sky was rumbling every few seconds."
A user on YouTube named "wolfshades" said that "we don't know whether the explosion was chemical or by virtue of its proximity to the Toronto Airport if a plane had crashed."
It is not yet known if the event caused any injuries, although Michael Gil, a contributer to the photo sharing site Flickr, said that "people are hurt."
Large numbers of police are on the scene to keep people away from the explosion.

Is the MSM going to avoid this one?

Yes, the lack of media coverage of this so far is astonishing. I’ve been reading posts by Toronto residents on different message boards about this for the past few hours. I’m amazed that this has received almost no attention.

One of the comments under the vid: “Hank Hill is in a fetal position.” That made me laugh.
Prayers for those injured.

Yes, the lack of media coverage of this so far is astonishing. It's the weekend ... journalists not on special assignment in Beijing aren't available 'till Monday 0900. Also the reason, of course, Edwards admits affair late afternoon on a Friday.

Probably just an industrial accident. Its a propane facility. It has apparently injured some locals and some houses have gone up in flames too. Evacuations are occurring because there are some tanker cars on the rail lines that go into the facility and they don't know what chemicals are in them. I live a number of miles away and didn't hear or feel anything but I was asleep so who knows. It's an unusually cool day today for this time of year and there is some rain predicted for today.

Curious. How did it happen that a video camera was on in the middle of the night, recording a fire that nobody in the media seems to care about?
