According to my maps, Gori is in the middle of the country.

“In South Ossetia itself, Georgian troops have retreated from the capital, Tskhinvali, because of heavy Russian shelling.
Russian troops are now in control of the city.”
I’m afraid the Georgians are going to be advised to give it up. Unfortunately, that will most likely result in Russia whittling away parts of Georgia until it is completely absorbed by Russia.

Send in agents provocateur to stir up unrest and revolt. When the Georgians rightfully try to restore order in their own country claim you are protecting your relatives from “ethnic cleansing” and attack. With this weak justification out of the way and counting on the cowardice of the West, simply conquer the entire country.
Putin is evil. A little smarter than Hitler. But a murdering tyrant nonetheless. Russia needs a slave empire since it can’t even feed itself. Welcome to Iron Curtain Phase II.
Bush looked into Putin’s soul, eh?

"TBILISI, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Russian fighter jets targeted the the major Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which carries oil to the West from Asia but missed, Georgia's Economic Development Minister Ekaterina Sharashidze said on Saturday."
Don't know if this is propaganda or fact. It's from Reuters

thanks - just doing my best to keep those interested informed. Particularly where US MSM is doing such a poor job covering such an important story.
FWIW - It appears the BBC have managed to get a team with a mobile Satellite Newsgathering kit on the ground in Gori, and they’re broadcasting live now.
On the ground it seems very calm, military vehicles heading north towards the fighting. Lots of residents heading south on foot.

They absolutely plan to invade Georgia proper. Once Russian tanks and rifles are pointed at everyones’ heads, there will be peace. Peacekeepers.

I read that there has been no interruption in the pipeline since that attack.

Yes he is. But he is also clumsy. Witness how he turned the Orange revolution into an election victory by heavy handed interference. Witness his shutting off the oil for awhile in Ukraine. And now this. The russians are feeling resentful and rich. But they haven't converted their money into real military power yet. IMHO Putin made his move too early. If we and the Turks and the Ukrainians and Poles can help the Georgians hold the line at the border of Georgia it will blunt the russians and wake up the euroweenies , especially the krauts, and then Putin will have a coalition of the awakened to contend with. The man is clumsy, brutal, and at his heart, a killer. But I think now he is exposed. And BTW, he also helped his american enemy in the election, JMcC.

Does anyone else find it weird that the MSM is almost silent on Russia invading another country???
This is huge news and I am seeing the Olympics Olympics Olympics. Yes, I know the Olympics are a big deal, but a Russian war is pretty darn big too!
