As dubious Debka is at times, I think they are right on this. The Iranians are bluffing and blustering. Why would they else screech all the time how powerful they are while photoshoppin missile tests. Their only weapon against us is oil-price, potential nukes (not yet) and terrorism. Their conventional military capabilities are better than Saddam’s army but still a joke.

Precisely. That’s been my impression as well. I posted once to another thread the analogy to Baghdad Bob style of BS which seems quite popular in the ME. Sabre rattling, and fiercesome facial expressions. Quite primitive, but effective apparently as nothing to date has been done about their aggression except talk.

Muzzies always bluster. At a certain point, civilized human beings stop taking them seriously, and eventually they give up and pick a new tactic. Notice how few “Muslims Will Kill the Great Satan” videos are being released these days. They couldn’t do it, and even they realize that they look like fools.
Believing their bluster is a waste of time. Personally, however, I think they should be struck just for spewing such stupidity and trying to upset civilized humanity. Guess it’s a good thing I’m not President...

The key to understanding all this is the difference between a “guilt” or “coscience” based society and an “honor” based society.
We in the West are “guilt” or “coscience” based. In short, facts matter, and actual capabilities and culpability matter. Truth matters. We therefore are concerned about backing up any claims we make.
Most of the ME are “honor” based. There, saving face is all that matters. If blustering and lying gets you by, that’s as good as doing. Facts are irrelevant.
Turning to these claims: The targets of the claims are two-fold. One is to save face with their own populace. We claim to have incredible weapons, and we do. The populace hears about those weapons and by and large thinks that’s just blustering. They expect the Iranian gov’t to counter with equally bold blustering in order to save face.
In fact, the Iranian gov’t also probably thinks a lot of our military might is just bluster. (That little problem of us taking down Iraq is something that can be handled through simple cognitive dissonance.)
Many in the West take Iran’s blustering seriously because we aren’t used to the “save face” mindset. We therefore become surprised when we find out they are making it up (although most freepers know better by now). We shouldn’t. The surprise should be if/when they ever tell the truth.

The materials needed for a real ramjet are barely within reach of US and Japanese tech right now. Somehow doubt that Russia and/or China could pull it off, esp. a few years ago.
The ME types aren’t the only one who use bluster to “save face” in the face of Western military power and tech.

Their entire culture is built on a lie: islam. There is no possibility of any truth, decency or anything else coming from any such muslim-dominated society.
Debka sucks, but Iran has been caught lying more than once about weapons development. Remember, they were dumb enough to think they could add missiles via Photoshop and get away with it.
