What makes you think that Russia has no investment in S.Ossetia? The US should tell Georgia to let S.O go.

Makes me wonder if Russia is getting their oil and gas supplies settled before Iran is knocked down, and China starts to get antsy on their eastern front.

They dont do nuthin without a reason.

Clearly, Russia has an interest if not investment in S.O.

Russia also has an investment in selling older weaponry to Venezuela. Venezuela, with Iran, have an investment in devaluing American currency (as well as the EU's currency). Russia and France, years back, tried to work out a deal with China selling China very specialized weapons. But VP Cheney and SecDef Rumsfeld put a squash in that potential deal.

Now, just so you know, I don't fault Russia for looking out for its own interests.

What I find curious is that not only was Russia one of the TOP 4 countries buying huge amounts of Saddam Hussein's "OIL 4 FOOD" gas; but that it was the Kurds, or a sect within the Kurds, or even Saddam's guys running the operation out of Kurdish lands; but; the whole word feels a pinch, economically, at a time when the Iran/Venezuela/China triangle is quite busy looking out for their own self-interests, while the media and other people are asserting that Georgia should NOT BE LOOKING out for its own-self interest - that being its pipelines.

Part of the reason Russia is so po'd, ime, is because the Independent States have fared better independently than they ever did under Russian dictates.

The U.S. should tell Georgia to let S.O. go but only when RUSSIA offers a fair price. What Russia is doing is UNCIVIL.

What Russia is doing is essentially grabbing what doesn't belong to them. What does Russia think it is doing? It's own Kelo Operation? That fuzzy "public domain" "good for the public good"?

I still support the Russians in kicking out the Georgians of S.O.

Sounds like someone is a Russophile. The fact is that the Georgians are allies, and deserve weaponry and logistical support.

Letting South Ossetia go would be like letting Arizona and Texas go back to Mexico once the Chicanos had a majority in both states. The Russians are descendants of folks who emigrated during the period of czarist colonialism. The sooner the Russians are thrown out of the Caucasus, the better.

The only good Russia is an isolated Russia.

I agree, with a price as you say. I’m sure it has to do with a “testing” of their revamped military doctrine/training etc... and to show they do have teeth and a bite.

Why, ma bell, I've been wondering myself if this isn't exactly what Russia is doing as a sales portrayal and while obtaining for themselves the oil they require and at lower prices than can be obtained purchasing OPEC.

I think Russia has learned "product marketing" from our American Liberals.

Not the strongest of arguments, since we are doing very little to halt this development in our own country.
