Former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina said Friday that he had an affair in 2006 with a woman who was not his wife. But he denied that he was the father of her baby, who was born in February, about a month after Mr. Edwards dropped out of the race for president.
Mr. Edwards, who no longer holds public office, said in a deeply personal statement that he had lied in previously denying the affair and that he was “ashamed” of his conduct. He said that “over the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic.”
A successful lawyer, Mr. Edwards, a Democrat, ran for president in 2004 before becoming Senator John Kerry’s running mate. He formally began his campaign for the 2008 presidential nomination in December 2006.

Lucky for Obama the Edwards sex scandal has come to light now instead of back in January, or Edwards would have been a shoo-in for the nomination.
Back in 1992, the Gennifer Flowers sex scandal blew up just before the New Hampshire primary, guaranteeing Bill Clinton would be the nominee. In 1988, Gary Hart had his sex scandal early in the campaign but he made the mistake of quitting, seemingly forgetting it's the adultery, baby-killing, crosses-in-urine, prayer-banning/God-banning party he was running in. Now it's also the cheating-on-your-wife-is-no-biggie-if-her-cancer-is-in-remission party.
If I understand the Democrats' current sex scandal correctly, John Edwards is insisting that things are not as bad as they look -- I can explain! He had sex with Rielle Hunter BUT he didn't love her; he cheated on his wife BUT didn't father "any baby"; he had an affair BUT Elizabeth's cancer was in remission; he cheated on her BUT only for a short time; he went to the Beverly Hilton Hotel BUT it was only to learn about poverty centers!
During his interview on Nightline tonight, Edwards firmly insisted that for 31 years he's 'been in love with only one woman', probably meaning himself. He says he takes full responsibility for cheating on his wife, adding that "I'm not the first person to do this." As he explains it, to keep the scandal from going public, he visited his mistress in a Los Angeles hotel and got photographed holding a baby he says isn't his. Whadda guy. The only thing shocking about the interview is how he mysteriously forgot to mention he's the SON OF A MILL WORKER more than fifteen times!
"Filmmaker" Rielle (who never was a filmmaker before) was supposedly hired to produce four videos about Edwards. The videos were soooooooooooo good, all traces of them were removed from Edwards's political action site. Rielle got paid over $100,000 by Edwards's One America Committee, followed up by another $14,461, then she's paid another $15,000 per month to live in a California mansion worth $3 million by Edwards's former campaign finance chairman, Fred Baron, who musta loved the videos too!
In the next few weeks, more explosive stuff will be released, according to National Enquirer honchos. Pass on the popcorn!

I’m still waiting for the msm to ask him to explain why he was sneaking into his mistress’s hotel room at 10:00 PM and sneaking out at 2:00 AM just two weeks ago.
