US tourist is 'killed in Beijing'
BBC ^ | 9 August 2008 | BBC

A US tourist has been killed in central Beijing after being attacked by a Chinese man, officials have said.

The man attacked two tourists and their tour guide as they visited the capital's ancient Drum Tower monument, injuring the second tourist and guide.

The assailant then committed suicide by jumping off the second story of the monument, the officials added. No motive has been given for the attack.

Officials have named the man as 47-year-old Tang Yongming.

The city's municipal government said the attack happened at around midday local time on the first full day of Olympic competition.

High security

The BBC's Quentin Sommerville in Beijing says China is a very low-crime society and it is very rare for a murder to be committed in broad daylight, particularly one targeting foreigners.

A witness told the AFP news agency that he had seen a large number of police officers and forensic scientists on the scene afterwards.

China has deployed massive security in the capital for the Olympics, with more than 150,000 police and other personnel on patrol.

An estimated 450,000 foreign tourists are expected to be in Beijing for the Games, which opened with a lavish ceremony on Friday evening.

The attack happened the day before US President George W Bush - in Beijing to attend the Games - is due to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao.

A US embassy spokesman said he was aware of the reports of the attack.

D’oh. I should have searched by key word rather than title.

The fact that the tourist was a 6-month old lesbian midget seems to been overlooked by the MSM...was it another one of Edward’s “mistakes?”

Any American who went to the Olympics deserves what they get. All Americans that went there are traitors to democracy and civilization.

Sounds like a fun time is being had by all.

Go to a gulag police state for their premier propaganda event along with other useful idiots from around the world. Eat foods that most Chinese will never taste and can never afford. Buy consumer goods made by slave labor under inhuman conditions. Pick the latest in pirated media and get that special ‘must-have’ item that was stolen in design and violates all patent laws.

Oh yeah . . . go enjoy the Olympics and its indomitable spirit of peace and cooperation - then go savor the indescribable experience of getting killed by a nutcase psycho.

At least this particular Chinese killer had the good sense to kill himself after his snit. Better, I suppose, than cutting the victims head off and nibbling on the corpse.

Certainly a bit over stated...does that include President Bush and the First Lady? How about the US Olympic Team? Does that include my friend from Texas who is there on a church group outreach?

I don’t like the idea of the games being in Commie China, however, one positive will be the ‘regular’ Chinese people will come in contact with FREE people from around the world.

I saw a short story about a retired couple who are there for a month and their interactions with the populace was very encouraging...the Chinese people hate their government restrictions as much as we Americans hate ours.

Yes to all. China is an enemy. They should be treated as such.

The GOVERNMENT and Military is the enemy...still, it’s an opinion

They have 300,000 security cameras, 150,000 official police and another 300,000 plain clothes citizen-spies...amazing that this happened...

I wouldn’t be surprised that AQ will attack something...hope all tourists are safe.

It’s funny that while I was in China just after the Cultural Revolution, even the most backward factory worker could distinguish between the US government, which he railed against as an “imperialist state”, and American citizens, whom he had great fondness for, due to his personal experiences during the Second World War. Yet we have people on this forum who can’t make the same distinction.

Something just hit me.

Recall the incident on the bus in Canada last week? An innocent victim was viciously killed by a male with a knife in a seemingly unprovoked attack. That attacker was initially identified as a 'Chinese muslim'.

The government and the military is the enemy, yes. The people are, too, because they allow their government and military to do what they do.

Just as we firebombed Dresden and A bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, all those civilians weren’t necessarily “guilty,” but the people must pay the price for their governments and military.

In essence, the two (the people and the gov’t/military) are inseparable.

So, every Chinese person is our enemy. even if they are individually nice folk.

Sorry Mobile, we’ll have to disagree then, your position is just a little too extreme, even for me.

Well, we certainly may disagree. But I have a question. When we go to war with China (or any other nation at any other time, for that matter) how do we live by your delicate sensibilities? Do we sit down with every single enemy soldier and civilian individually and ask them if they are our friends before we decide to join them in battle?

Like I said, killing civilians by the millions is the surest way to end war. Its a sad matter of fact, of course, I don’t revel in it. But it must be done.

If we end up with war with China (and THAT is EXACTLY hat the Chinese want) then we should kill as many millions of them, man, woman, and child, as we can as quickly as we can.

Here is a link from another source, perhaps with enough reports, more clues may emerge:
