For them, this is supposed to be the Democrats' year, an inevitable march towards the White House after the catastrophic defeats of 2000 and 2004. Almost everything seems to be going their way: unpopular president, disenchantment with the Iraq war, a faltering economy and an inspirational Democratic candidate.
What is worrying the Democrats, in spite of all these pluses, is that Obama's poll lead has remained stubbornly small. A tracking poll by RealClearPolitics published yesterday has Obama on 46.9% compared with John McCain's 43.3%.
"I think there are a lot of Democrats who are nervous," said Tad Devine, chief strategist for the Kerry White House bid in 2004. "I think they thought this election would fall into their laps."

Obama’s bubble has not burst but it is leaking,” said Peter Brown, assistant director at one of the country’s leading pollsters, the Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
Obama won’t even be the Democrats’ final 2008 White House Presidential candidate.
Obama’s campaign is being run by Plouffe, who engineered the post-deadline illegal Torricelli Switch for Lautenberg.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
However, if they do that, the blacks will stay home in droves.
Rather a 'rock and a hard place', eh? Words can not describe how I love this result.
Best to you, as ever, mate!
Well said. Most smart people realize that “change” is not necessarily good. When you look at likely voters, Obama has no real lead. I also think that 3-6% of people who say they will vote for him are fibbing (Bradley factor). That said, the MSM is holding their powder on McCain till Oct. Then watch out—you will see lot of articles on everything from his temper to the Keating Five.
Ultimately, the devil you know is better than the one you don’t.
That doesn't begin to tell the extent of Obama's problems.
McCain is already ahead or dead even with Obama in enough states to win the election. Then you have reliable RAT states like Michigan, Oregon and Pennsylvania getting closer and closer. Plus, when you take a close look at the remaining Undecideds, they tend to be white working class voters -- the ones Obama has had so much trouble winning over.
Add it all together, and McCain not only has a chance to win, his odds are looking better and better with each passing day.
**Obama wont even be the Democrats final 2008 White House Presidential candidate.**
The Clintoons are still at work, aren’t they?
Obama is behind in Florida, Ohio, and Missouri, he's not in the lead.
Good news, Enos, the point spread is with in the margin of error. Yeah, Obama ain’t leading nothing but a one man parade.
The nation just isn’t as far left as the candidate the dems have put forth and it is reflected in the polls. The MSM just can’t get enough lipstick on this socialist pig.
Missouri has gone with the winner for decades. If Obama is losing there, he is losing nationwide.
To be truthful...had Hillary won the primary season...the edge would be in her favor at this point...and probably another seven points plus. McCain has been lucky to have Obama as the candidate, without any doubt. It would have been a much tougher race with Hillary in the running.
Is Obama losing in Missouri at this time?
FEELS good, of course, but is that enough feeeeeling to get them to vote for Obama--i.e. the actual democrat, not some "generic" democrat?
The closer we get to election day, the more people are seeing that Obama is an empty suit. He has the sunglasses and the open shirt as he gets off the plane in Hawaii, the press love him, but those the MSM can manipulate in this way already are in Obama's pocket.
The undecideds are working whites, I keep reading. I'm also reading that a lot of whites, afraid of looking racist, SAY they're going to vote for him, but may not, when one looks at the difference between his polling numbers and his actual votes received.
Also, something that's really underreported is how close HRC came. Seeing Chrissy Matthews you'd think Obama walked to the nomination. McCain, with far less backing of conservatives, won the primaries by larger margins than did Obama. This doesn't get spoken about enough--where to the Olbermans of the world get off behaving like Obama is the chose one when the dems had a very close primary?
Obama can still win, but this is going to be a hard battle. I really think that McCain is going to wipe the floor with him when it comes to the debates--why else would Obama not accept his "town hall" challenge? McCain is far too nice to dems, but he wants the presidency so badly I think he will hit Obama with both barrels, knowing that there's nothing to be gained from being "nice" to him because in those debates he has to win undecideds who want one of these two candidates to distinguish himself. Whatever my reservations about McCain, Obama looks like a little kid beside him, and I don't mean "youthful" but without any real-world experience. Ultimately, I think that's what's going to sway undecideds in a world where Russia is starting a way, Al Qaeda is out there, and spouting softness about "change" and "hope" is a cover for the one thing all libs believe in--raising taxes.

McCain is going to face a storm of Propaganda in the next 60 days. He is going to be painted as Mad, war monger, oil baron, clone of Bush/Chaney, nuts, Conservative nut, and a racist. Look for the Democrats to bring back the “Mistress” story and the people who say he was a collaborator while in prison. All they can do is knock him down to get Obama elected. Watch your back McCain.
