Members of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) and Tyson Foods workers at the poultry processing plant in Shelbyville overwhelmingly voted to overturn a union contract provision that replaced Labor Day as a paid holiday with the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, it was announced this morning. The new agreement will increase the number of paid days off for workers in the current calendar year to include both Labor Day and the Muslim observance as paid holidays for workers in the Shelbyville plant.
The agreement amends the existing contract negotiated last year, according to a press release from the RWDSU.

In a letter to the Times-Gazette published Thursday, Ray, Shelbyville Mayor Wallace Cartwright, Democratic State Rep. Curt Cobb, and Republican State Sen. Jim Tracy said that substituting Labor Day "for a non-traditional holiday is unacceptable."

Yeah, like the union workers would turn down getting an EXTRA paid holiday. Sorry, Tyson, I don’t see the word “INSTEAD” in there. Not good enough.
Did you ever feel like a frog floating in nice warm bath water?
Maybe we have been witness to a diabolically clever ploy to cadge another paid day off; start a forest fire and then get paid to stomp it out.
Let me get this straight. The muzzies had a tantrum, Tyson caved and now they get an extra day off.
The heat has been turned up and maybe we’ll see something different in next year’s contract.
The fight against this encroachment on our values and traditions had to start somewhere and we might be seeing the first shot.
Fingers crossed.
So to avoid backlash Tyson is giving both holidays
I still have an issue with this, as it is all part of the islamazation of America
I will continue to boycott tyson
Ribbit. :-)
Who knows what the heck has been going on? It’s been a week to make one dizzy around here.
I thought it was just for this calendar year, and then they go back to 8 paid holidays including one "personal day" so the muslims can use that for their whatever-celebration.
Same here. Been boycotting them since '92 when it was revealed that they were a huge Clinton donor.
There’s an extra day off this year, but next year it goes back to 8 paid holidays. It’s laid out in the full article.
Still doesn’t really work, in the minds of many of us.
That’s a pretty good summation.
Haven’t been boycotting them as that’s what Sam’s sells. But from now on, my chicken dollars will go somewhere else.
Just sent them a little email on their “contact us” area of their web site telling them how I feel.
Boycott will continue!
Too little, too late. We’re through with Tyson products in this household.
No, a bunch of redneck bigots threw a tantrum. Tyson tried to appease them by restoring Labor Day, essentially giving the union one extra paid day off.
Reneck bigots still not happy.
Why it matters to anyone else what two parties mutually agree to in a contract has yet to be explained.
One can only hope this is the little snowball getting ready to roll down the hill to become a big snowball.
Americans just might be waking up to the big problem - the Islamazation of America - and doing what they’re able to put a stop to it.
It’s a small step but it has to start somewhere. Though this change in the holiday plan doesn’t cut the mustard, we don’t know what the next step will be.
We can only hope at this point.
