It's so frustrating.
Nope. They still have quite a few and they are good strike aircraft...similar to our older F-111s.
“1400 deaths would not surprise me”
Where are our liberal friends on this??
Shouldn’t they be screaming for War Crimes Trials and Impeachments by now?
Funny, they are strangely quiet on this.
S. Ossetia leader says 1,400 dead in fighting
About 1,400 people have died as a result of "Georgian aggression" Against South Ossetia, the president of the Georgian breakaway region was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying on Friday.
"About 1,400 died. We will check these figures, but the order of the numbers is around this. We have this on the basis of reports from relatives," Eduard Kokoity was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.
Bump for home viewing. DHS won’t let tinypic images through.
Where is the Kildar and the Mountain Tiger Militia when you REALLY need them ??
(Obligatory John Ringo Ping)
This is serious people. Georgia’s military has mostly outdated Russian arms. The Russians know how to fight against their own arms. Unless the Georgians get new weaponry from the west, they will not be in very good shape in the next couple of days. These attacks came in such bad timing for Georgia, everyone’s attention is on the Olympics including most of the world leaders.
Last time I checked NATO IS the US. Who can we trust to help the Georgians? Most of Europe is part of NATO but they do not have half the capabilities of the US military. The closest neighbors to help Georgia are Ukraine and Turkey. Ukraine might play a big role in establishing peace to re-enforce their entrance into NATO and Turkey will not act alone as part of NATO.
Let us take some time to pray for cool heads to prevail. I remember hearing that when our aircraft carriers are offshore cooler heads prevail, but unless Turkey gives US warbirds permission to fly over it’s territory there is little physical help we can offer Georgia and Aircraft carriers are not allowed to cross the Sea of Marmara and the straights in Istanbul, only small carriers like the Kuznetsov can pass.
The total stupidity of your comments only get's worse. CHECHNYA IS RUSSIAN TERRITORY genius! The situation Chechnya-Russia only reinforces the validiy of Georgia's fight!
I recommend you look on a map first before commenting. Georgia has nothing to do with Islamic terrorists INSIDE Russia. Just as Russia had a right to quell Chechnyan terrorists, the Georgians have a right to quell Russian-backed rebels in Georgia, THEIR OWN TERRITORY. Get lost.
The more interesting question is the Status of Georgia’s troops currently serving in IRAQ. Arguably, these are Georgia’s best-trained and equooed troopers.
There is only one way they get home as a fighting force, and that would be with massive US assistance.
Thanks for your map...
HISTORICAL NOTE:
The farthest point of German advance in to the Caucus region was 5 miles west of GORI along the Kura river.
Read the latest article here on Georgia! They have recalled their troops from Iraq to fight the Russian Invasion!
“but its deepest root draws on the sense of American and Western Slavophobia which Clinton and Bushs mishandling of the Balkans created.”
Exactly. We all know Putin does not really care much about helping the Ossetians, or anyone else for that matter. He is after weakening Georgia and obtaining more control over energy assets and pipelines. He does not want a free and prosperious Georgia on his border.
However, now whenever someone like Putin needs an excuse to invade a neighbor, all he has to do is secretly support some ethnic group, start up an independence movement, and use the Balkan excuse to move troops into another country.
I think the US owes Georgia support, whatever it may be. They put troops on the line for usand they have a great looking flag!
Turkey is the Wild-Card here...
How they respond, especially as a NATO member will decide what course the US takes.
Yes, easily.
Right on! Clinton and Bush blew it and here’s where the rubber meets the road.
The Turks (if reacting logical) will either stay out or back Georgia. Their Kurdish situation can’t allow them to back a separatist fight.
