I don't find the Serbs very admirable in most of their activities, but the thing that stirred them up was the need to resist the Islamization and division of their country.
I think it is pretty hard to defend our actions there as having been necessary in any way, and I think they really were simply motivated by Clinton's desire to distract attention from his personal life and make himself look heroic (to some). The Serbian side was more vulnerable and hence easier to target, and in addition, the Muslim propaganda machine, so well displayed by the Palis with their doctored photos, fake dead people, etc., was in full churn.
But the situation in Georgia is different. There are many more interests in play here, and it is potentially much more serious on the international level with the big nations. So this time it's not a matter of zipping in to bomb a small and already somewhat unpopular national group and then zipping away again. The big guns are involved here.

I have noticed that the DBM is not reporting on this much today. Probably hoping that Americans will not notice until they get the talking points from the DNC on how they can use the story to help democrats and Obama.

FOX has been reporting on it regularly- but no one on yet to analyze the situation- although of all people- earlier this morning Geraldo was all over it- and clearly got how huge this is and has the potential to become..
Russia is going after Georgia's deep strike assets to protect the rear of their forces entering Osetia. I.e., the Russians are not attacking, they are invading.
With news coming in more slowly, questions start to arise. Why to Georgia take this action today, of all days? The day the Olympics start, they pick as the day to retake S. Ossetia, why? What is their goal?

A. Georgians did intend to block and take Tskhinvali by Friday morning, then move North quickly to block (or blow up) the south side of the Roksky tunnel so that Russian ground forces would be unable to enter South Osetia. Without ground reinforcements, Russians wouldn’t have been able to do much.
B. Russia was prepared for such a scenario, just look at the absolutely amazing response time between the Georgian advance late Thursday and the elements of Russian 58th showing up at Tskhinvali just before noon the next day. His comments on just how fast Russia moved are interesting. You just don;t wake up and move armored units on a whim and with lightening speed. Russia was very prepared .... how were they so prepared? Was Georgia that clumsy and Russian intell that good?
Reports are that Russian units in the area just finished large scale military exercises ... which helps with the prepared part, but presents odd timing for the Georgian military. Why move with such an overwhelming and prepared / mobilized force facing you? This situation has festered for 16 or so years, why now? What’s Georgia’s “end game” here?
