In other news, Barack Obama is vacationing in Hawaii and is negotating a truce between two snack stands in Oahu. Apparently the formula for a pineapple and coconut icee is in serious dispute.
David Axelrod claims that it is yet another feather in the budding cap of Obama’s foreign policy experience.

Oh man- this is not good. And Turkey has told Georiga it will help supply electricity for the country.
Stalin was Orthodox and had even been in an Orthodox seminary. However, he was certainly not Orthodox when he was a dictator and in fact had even been kicked out of the seminary earlier.
Hitler was born in a Catholic area of Germany, but by the time he was a teenager, he had been kicked out of Catholic school and no longer considered himself Catholic.
Mussolini was more in the mold of Franco, initially a home-grown nationalist rightist. However, Franco opposed Hitler's attempt to take over his country, whereas Mussolini did not have the courage to do the same, and hence was swept into the religion of Hitler's National Socialism.
As for the mass graves, some of that has since been shown to be simply Muslim lies, and in addition, mass Christian graves (of civilians) have also been found.
I don't find the Serbs very admirable in most of their activities, but the thing that stirred them up was the need to resist the Islamization and division of their country.
I think it is pretty hard to defend our actions there as having been necessary in any way, and I think they really were simply motivated by Clinton's desire to distract attention from his personal life and make himself look heroic (to some). The Serbian side was more vulnerable and hence easier to target, and in addition, the Muslim propaganda machine, so well displayed by the Palis with their doctored photos, fake dead people, etc., was in full churn.
But the situation in Georgia is different. There are many more interests in play here, and it is potentially much more serious on the international level with the big nations. So this time it's not a matter of zipping in to bomb a small and already somewhat unpopular national group and then zipping away again. The big guns are involved here.
Yep....it was just this sort of thing that started WW2.
I have noticed that the DBM is not reporting on this much today. Probably hoping that Americans will not notice until they get the talking points from the DNC on how they can use the story to help democrats and Obama.
Look for Madame Not so Bright to be on all the channels by tonight. Mark my word...lol
(eye roll)
??? I think it was Rome wasnt it?
FOX has been reporting on it regularly- but no one on yet to analyze the situation- although of all people- earlier this morning Geraldo was all over it- and clearly got how huge this is and has the potential to become..
Russia is going after Georgia's deep strike assets to protect the rear of their forces entering Osetia. I.e., the Russians are not attacking, they are invading.
With news coming in more slowly, questions start to arise. Why to Georgia take this action today, of all days? The day the Olympics start, they pick as the day to retake S. Ossetia, why? What is their goal?
Someone on another board posted this:
“Of course we can speculate all we want about the true goals of the Georgian leadership, but I will go out on a limb and make a couple of assumptions here:
A. Georgians did intend to block and take Tskhinvali by Friday morning, then move North quickly to block (or blow up) the south side of the Roksky tunnel so that Russian ground forces would be unable to enter South Osetia. Without ground reinforcements, Russians wouldn’t have been able to do much.
B. Russia was prepared for such a scenario, just look at the absolutely amazing response time between the Georgian advance late Thursday and the elements of Russian 58th showing up at Tskhinvali just before noon the next day. It’s not a joke to get mechanized infantry columns through a 100km of potentially hostile winding mountaineous terrain, they had to first make sure there were no mines, they had to take nearby elevated ground and they had to ensure adequate air defence while on the march. They’ve also moved straight through the Georgian enclaves and spend a lot of time detouring near Tskhinvali from East and West to avoid the already deployed Georgian units.”
His comments on just how fast Russia moved are interesting. You just don;t wake up and move armored units on a whim and with lightening speed. Russia was very prepared .... how were they so prepared? Was Georgia that clumsy and Russian intell that good?
Reports are that Russian units in the area just finished large scale military exercises ... which helps with the prepared part, but presents odd timing for the Georgian military. Why move with such an overwhelming and prepared / mobilized force facing you? This situation has festered for 16 or so years, why now? What’s Georgia’s “end game” here?
RUSSIA supports OSSETIA’s independency for political reasons of influence in the area(an old cold-war stance)and Russian leaders will probably remind KOSOVO’s AND BOSNIA’s independency...
“strafed a Russian humanitarian aid convoy.
Isn’t that what the russians call WMD convoys bound for Syria, too?
That's what I find mystifying, too. Why now?

MOre news reports:
“MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian soldiers now in the South Ossetian capital say their artillery has begun firing at Georgian forces - the first confirmed engagement between the two countries’ troops, Russian agencies reported.
“Georgian troop positions firing on Tskhinvali and peacekeepers were suppressed by artillery fire and tank units of the 58th Army, which are outside the capital of South Ossetia,” Russian army Colonel Igor Konashenkov, television channel Vesti-24 quoted him as saying.”

“MEGVREKISI, Georgia (Reuters) - Russian armored vehicles have entered the northern edges of the capital of the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia, the separatists’ press service reported on its website on Friday.
“Russian armored vehicles have entered the northern suburbs of Tskhinvali,” the website cominf.org reported, adding that Georgian troops had started to retreat.”
“Obama says all sides should enter into direct talks...
Jeez. This guy really is not “Ready to Lead on Day 1”.”
Using Machievelli’s interpretation, THEY ARE in Direct Talks!
Christianity became the state religion of Georgia in 337 AD. It didn’t become the state religion of the Roman Empire until 395 AD, nearly 60 years later.
From some posters on another site (grain of salt stuff):
“Russian posters in other forum said that they heard in the news that Georgia is thinking of calling up 100,000 reservists..”
“dunno about 100,000, but students are called up, seen TV report from Tbilisi, and they mom’s demanding some answers.”
Oh boy, did he think of that all by himself? Or did one of his 300 advisors think of that brilliant gem?
This clown is stunning in his dimwittedness.
Another post from other sites:
“A Russia newspaper claims that 76th VDV division is on the way to Ossetia.”
