IF, and it’s so remote a possibility, but if we did anything, I doubt it would be with Naval aviation. We’d probably use land based F-15E’s / F-15C’s, and given the foe, F-22A’s operating out of Iraq and/or Kuwait. The key obsticle would be political as we’d have ot overfly Turkish territory.
Maybe... but I think Turkey is the real wildcard. They DO have some of our older front-line systems and they ARE a NATO member.
No need to apologize. I appreciate all of your posts/links. Thanks very much.
No, because Georgia is not a member of NATO. They want to be, but it hasn’t happened yet, and this has no bearing on NATO’s charter. Only state-to-state relations will enter into what kind(s) of support Georgia gets or does not get now.....
Appy, I believe there is a pipe line in the region in question.
The Russians don’t want any more Muslims hanging about. Turkey is safe.
Thanks for more info. I was in Europe for the last month, and the growing tension got a bit more reporting there than it did here (although that’s probably not saying much). These states or regions have been quasi-independent for some time. I wonder if the oil has anything to do with this move now?
From all indications, Turkey wouldn’t mind us using their airspace - they’ve already said they support Georgia and would move to help if needed.
I think the carriers are heading for the Persian Gulf for the obvious reason - Iran. They’re out of position for the Georgia affair.
Russian MoD denying the loss of any warplanes. Typical for war, most likely neither side will tell or even known the truth at this point.
What you suggest could be managed by the B-2 out of Missouri, couldn't it?
That cameraman is crazy! At some points he is running across open spots to other positions. Amazing he didn’t get hit.
Noooooooooo! The Cubs are leading the division!
Fog of war right now. I doubt we know what is really going on for a couple days.
Yeah... but they may get Turkey fighting them anyway. Turkey has said that they will enter any war like this one on Georgia’s side.
We may very well see how well our older front-line gear with decent handling (not as good as us, but still competent) does against new Russian gear.
I for one don’t think it’s a good time to be a Russian pilot....
Had they flown over Kennesaw, the armed citizenry would have taken them down.
More seriously, this doesn't look good.
From another thread on another site:
“Ukrainian TV reports combat alert on Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Moskva heavy missile cruiser, Ladniy and Pytliviy frigates, two amphibious assult ships with naval infantry and tanks are being put to the sea.”
What the US needs to do is covertly jam and use ECM to Georigias benifit.
Well, if they bring it to NATO:
The North Atlantic Treaty
Article 5
The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .
still bet they already discussed this and we said OK.
