Yup. Russia can easily take them out. But it will be embarassing.
They’re missing some of the air defense systems we gave them, which I believe include the Stingers speculated to have brought down those two Russian aircraft.
Hmm. The WRIF morning show guys were just making fun of someone who predicted the end of the world on 8-8-08 at 8 am. Maybe we shouldnt laugh just yet....
****
Hey,we’ve made it past 8 am here in Texas! Woo-hoo!
Sorry. Don't know why I was asking you. :)
In any case, this whole "multipolarization" business is largely what was behind the Clinton Chinagate scandal. Clinton wanted to "level the playing field".
The straight of Hormuz isn’t.
We made it to 9:30 here so you guys should be safe until then.
If that TOE is right, the Georgians are in deep caca. Their best aircraft are all ground attack (the Su-25s) and their fighters are second-line (MiG-21) or not designed as dogfighters (MiG-25). Granted, the Russian military is incredibly creaky these days, but still, I thought Georgia had a lot more firepower than that in their air force.

Economics. Turkey has a lot invested as far as rail and oil pipelines in Georgia, while Russia has been doing the same in Armenia and Azerbaijnan. Turkey is not going to allow Russia to upset the balance of power in the Black and Caspian Seas. Essentially the two are vying for control of resources here.
Russia could probably conquer Georgia in a week but probably at the cost of at least 10,000 casualties.
Read reports that Georgian Su-25’s have engaged Russian armor.
6:25 am left coast.
Stock markets open in 5 minutes back east.
Don’t forget Russia and Turkey were historical enemies as well.
So will it be “Road to Basra” or do the Russians have good air support in place? Wouldn’t think they would throw 100+ tanks out to be chewed up without providing good air cover, would they?
Georgia is a Member of NATO. Wonder how that will come into play?
That would be sweet if our Stingers are still better than the Ruskies defenses. Remember Afghanistan?
Very interesting. This scenario fits right into NATO's charter doesn't it?
It’s 582 miles, one way, from Baghdad to Tblisi. The Straits are even further out than that.
Playing with some numbers here, that’s almost a 2000 mile strike round trip, assuming they launch from somewhere out in the Gulf and don’t overfly Iran.
The A6 is only good for an ~1100 mile strike with full combat load. Yeah, there’s mid-air refuel, but still - a 2000 mile strike? That’s four hours in the air in something that’s not a strategic bomber.
Turkey’s promise to help Georgia would be worth more as they have quite a few land-based aircraft that could be there in only a few minutes.
How close to Atlanta were the planes?
