Politico: MoveOn Ads Could Backfire (ROTFLM*O!!! Must Read)
Politico ^ | Thursday, August 7, 2008 | Josh Kraushaar

A series of new MoveOn.org radio advertisements looks like they could backfire, big-time.

The liberal group is up with ads against six House Republicans attacking them for their support of offshore drilling. Problem is: most of the targets represent energy-rich districts where drilling is viewed favorably, to put it mildly.

One target, Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), represents a west Texas district where the discovery of oil in the 1940s created wealth throughout the region, and the energy industry has since dominated the region’s economy.

And four of the six GOP targets hold heavily Republican seats and aren’t even facing credible challengers this election.

The ad targets: Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), and Reps. John Culberson (R-Texas), Mary Fallin (R-Okla.), Mike Pence (R-Ind.), Mike Conaway (R-Texas) and Jon Porter (R-Nev.)

Already one Democratic challenger (who is a wind energy businessman), Michael Skelly, immediately condemned the ads. Skelly is a credible contender running against Culberson in a conservative-minded suburban Houston district filled with energy industry employees.

Skelly, in fact, has already called for Congress to lift the ban on offshore drilling.

“MoveOn’s opposition to drilling is 100% wrong, and so is John Culberson’s opposition to investment in renewable energy,” said Skelly. “Houstonians want honest solutions to our energy challenges. Drilling for oil is a crucial component of a balanced energy plan, and I strongly support it.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee also wasted no time in responding to the ads.

“We wholeheartedly endorse this colossal waste of funds,” said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. “Not only is MoveOn.org’s anti-drilling position out of step with 70 percent of Americans, but a member like Mike Conaway who represents the Texas oil patch will probably see his approval rating surge upward as a result of these ads."

Sometimes we are blessed with moronic enemies.

But the problem is this... there are more of them than us...

I saw the ad and thought what a useless ad, this won’t win any votes. Democrats just can’t grasps how people could be for drilling. It is really funny.

“Problem is: most of the targets represent energy-rich districts where drilling is viewed favorably...”

One would think that ANYWHERE oil is consumed and neurons are firing within cerebrums, anti-drilling ads would backfire.

But then, liberals, as usual, are unable to connect the cause and effect dots, and in knee-jerk fashion, spurn a cheap, easily accessible energy source like good old un-hip petroleum.

Is it the ad where the old man tells us that he is disappointed in McCain. It is really an awful ad. AWFUL. I actually chuckled.

What’s the old saying about giving them enough rope? This is very funny. You just know one of their genuses got this really great idea and without checking any further went head first into it. Let’s hope they have invested millions into this!

Drilling for oil in America is a concept that ‘every man” can understand.

Realizing this, some Dems are jumping on the bandwagon.

The rest want to be invited to Algore’s new house boat.

They’ll follow this ad series up with one attacking Kansas Republicans for wanting to grow more corn and Florida Republicans for supporting the orange growers.

Libs, ironically, given their alleged kumbayah tendencies, utterly lack EMPATHY.

They have no clue that there actually are people in the world who do not and will not see things the way they do-—because, having examined the facts, they had reached a reasoned conclusion to the contrary.
