"It's not just the economic downturn that has harmed the green order. People have become wary of environmental causes that can turn out to do more harm than good. They don't want wind turbines marching across Britain's moors when nuclear power stations can do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They worry that washing and bleaching all those non-disposable nappies may be damaging the ozone layer, that the massive incentives for biofuels have distorted the world food market, and that green taxes are actually stealth taxes."

Green steaming... has become the old brown steaming...
In other words people are coming to their senses.
Voters are green as long as it doesn’t cost them green.
Green steaming, is this season’s new brown steaming...
There. Fixed it.
. . . and the pendulum reverses course.
Taxes don't stay stealth for very long.
Out in my neck of the woods, the LA DWP is erecting an enormous windmill farm in the Tehachapis, then sending the power over another huge set of hulking transmission lines across the Angeles National Forest to LA, so the NIMBY’s down there can preen themselves on how “green” they are. Meanwhile, their wonderful project defaces the landscape up here and raises the risk of wildfire from transmission lines knocked down by the Santa Ana winds.
The pc brand of environmentalism kills, and destroys. But I believe that is actually its purpose.
It ain’t easy being green. Kermit the Frog
...” and that green taxes are actually stealth taxes....”
...yep and not to mention all the proposed laws, regulations and red tape the Greens have in mind for us...the costs of which will be passed on to the consumer.
John Q has no idea what he pays in taxes.
A $200.00 car rental winds up $270.00 by the time the fees (tax), and taxes are added on.
Same thing with damn near any other bill. Hotels, airline tickets, telephone...
I like the line:
GREEN MEANS TAXES!
Tell McCain and his lib bud Rooty that.
Yeah... reminds me of a photo I saw of a “Green” festival.... an environmental concert thing that was held outside.
The photo showed the aftermath when everyone had left and there were thousands of water bottles laying around on the ground among other trash. One field that was used for parking (from the gas powered cars that the hundreds of people drove there) turned to a muddy slop from the tire tracks.
Not to mention they are known to be killing many birds.
Like turning off domestic oil/energy supplies.
This is exactly why I was happy to see “carbon taxes” introduced in British Columbia. They are one of the “least worst” solutions to the non-problem of AGW. Unlike the hidden costs (and reduced freedom) that come with regulations — carbon taxes are transparent (at least in part). Everyone sees the tax bite when they gas up, or when they buy heating fuel.
John and Janet Q. Public were all in favour of “fighting global warming”; when they were still freshly brainwashed into thinking that all that would be required is screwing in curly light bulbs (and then turning them off), plus copping a righteous attitude. Now that it's starting to hit the pocketbook; they've become a bit more skeptical about the “green” (actually watermelon) propaganda.
Also, I think that the “green movement” jumped the shark when they started campaigning to ban bottled water (in convenient, recyclable containers). They overlooked the fact that nearly all of their supporters buy the stuff.
Christian children receive Christmas and birthday presents. Muslim children do NOT receive Christmas and birthday presents.
Now comes the bad part! The prevailin wind comes from the ocean and Bay Delta up to us here in the Schwartzenegger Sierra-Nevada CONservancy so they just git even with us for peein in their drinkin water by fartin in every other whirlwind and de-tunin their cars by lettin the air outta their danged tires!!!
And so it goes, day in and day out till Schwartzenegger helps the GovernMental EnvironMental members of GANG-GREEN create more boxes that Arnold will NEVER git around to blowin up!!!
In my end of the county all our water comes from wells, but thanks for the warning. I won't be drinking tap water when I'm at work.
