A growing number of Republican members of Congress yesterday continued the revolt against Speaker Nancy Pelosis refusal to vote on offshore oil drilling as they sustained their vigil demanding a vote on a drill and energy bill. Over 70 members have participated in the events to date, with the number swelling daily.
When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi abruptly adjourned Congress last Friday for a five week vacation blocking an up or down vote on offshore drilling before recess, the action caused a spontaneous uprising that smoldered over the weekend, showed renewed sparks of life on Monday and is now threatening to grow into a full-fledged revolution. Democrats should ignore this at their own peril.
As a steady stream of members began returning to the District Tuesday night, tour groups Wednesday for a time had the extraordinary experience of being met at the door of the House Republican cloakroom by Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT) who gave them instruction in the rules governing electronic devices in the chamber, then escorted them to the floor of the House to settle back into a chair usually occupied by a Member of Congress.
As more Republican representatives returned from their districts to participate in the blacked-out of television and radio events in the House chamber, the number of attendees for the speeches is on the steep rise as tourists are being invited to join in on what can only be called at this point - gauging by the mood -- festivities.
The audience for the opening speeches Wednesday morning was standing room only and two deep in the back and side aisles of the House floor with the overflow spilling into the gallery.

Have not seen this mentioned on the Brit Hume show. Has it been mentioned anywhere except here?
Seems to me if this were a Democrat revolt it would be wall to wall main stream media madness.
If I remember correctly, Connie Hair was an original Freeper.
Correct. Screen name Clintonsaliar.
The revolting Republicans are the ones that voted to go home.
Can’t anyone get a spycam in there?

Good article, Connie! This is one of those times that I wish I were close enough to DC to pop over and take a look at what’s going on—LOL!
She's a charter member of high standing!!
Actually: Clinton’s a liar
Since 3/26/1998 (several months too late to be “an original FReeper)

Not getting much play is it? Time for an Executive Order ordering CFTC to investigate Goldman Sachs and British Petroleum’s rolls in this oil gouging scandal, and go prime time with them.
70 members to date? This is pathetic turnout for the best and probably the only chance to win back the House and Senate. If this is all the interest the Republicans can show for politics, they will end up with only 70 members by the time this election is over.
Thanks
Trust me. She was one of the Founding Freepers.
Under a different screen name, maybe?
The DBM is framing this as a Republican, temper tantrum. It NEVER mentions the overwhelming support of the American people. When you control the news... you control mass perception.
"I received this email address from an article at Human Events. I'm both pleased and proud that Republicans in the House have banded together to fight for the economy which is affecting all Americans.
"My wife and I have had to cancel our vacation (from Illinois) to Texas this year to see our grand daughter because of high fuel prices. I advised her to travel alone by air for a few days but she refuses because of my health. So, I'm sorry to say we're staying home. It's not only fuel prices but the increase in prices across the board; fuel and food especially, that really hurts. We've cut back a lot on everything.
"The whole idea that drilling offshore or in protected areas won't bring immediate relief at the pump is specious. We've already seen prices decline temporarily because of the President lifting the executive order, and on speculation that additional areas for drilling may be opened. Once those areas ARE opened, such price declines will continue even though adequate inventories won't be forthcoming soon. Not only that, but just the fact that the American public sees that someone is listening and doing something to relieve their plight means a lot.
"Why you are doing is important to America. Don't be discouraged by the absense of media attention. You can't expect that. There's news they never will report unless dragged to the trough. It doesn't suit their agenda. But word is getting out. And your interaction with tourists and visitors will have an enormous affect. Our hats are off to you as good Americans and fighters for our freedom. Don't let the Democrats get away with shutting down freedom of speech and assembly. Once they learn they can do this at will, we've lost it all.
"God's blessings on everyone,
"Respectfully,
"bcsco"
I encourage everyone to do the same. The email address is PainAtThePump@mail.house.gov.
Darned editing while writing...Sheesh!
Come back now and I will forgive them.
