McCain supporters poke fun at Obama with tire pressure gauge giveaway

ELKHART — Sen. Barack Obama stopped in Republican territory Wednesday with a town hall meeting in Elkhart, where he talked about his plan to turn the economy around.

Evan Bayh's introduction RAW VIDEO: Obama's speech at Concord HS RAW VIDEO: Obama Q&A part 1 RAW VIDEO: Obama Q&A part 2 Related Content Obama pokes at McCain over tire-pressure issue Obama focuses on energy, economy at Elkhart town hall meeting Festive atmosphere prevails for those awaiting Obama PHOTO GALLERY: Waiting for Obama PHOTO GALLERY: Obama Arrives Obama leads McCain nationally in AP-Ipsos poll A group of Sen. John McCain's supporters set up across the street as the Obama motorcade pulled into Concord High School. They were on hand for a light-hearted jab at Obama's energy policies.

They were poking fun at a recent comment Obama made that Americans could cut oil prices by making sure their tires are inflated. To get their point across, the group had a giant tire gauge and gave out free regular sized gauges.

'He’s claiming that the amount of gas we would get from off shore drilling is the equivalent to the amount we would save if people just filled up their tires and did regular oil changes,” said Elkhart resident Jason Bryant. “There’s no way, the math just doesn't work. We need to be drilling in the U.S. as soon as possible."

“The message is the country needs more energy and we are not going to be able to conserve our way out of it. Filling up your tire is a good idea, but we're going to have to go after the oil that we got here," said Goshen resident Joe Fisher.

Those on hand said it was not an organized effort to show their support for McCain but rather a grassroots type of effort.

“This is a bunch of volunteers who said they wanted to come out here to do this, and I’ve come over to join them," said County GOP Chairman Dale Stickel.

“I just came up from Fort Wayne today to show that Indiana does support John McCain to be the next president,” said Paul Morrison. “I think it’s pretty important to have an opportunity to provide a balanced message with Senator Obama being in town today."

The group even said it would check the tire pressure for local drivers.

When asked about tire pressure Tuesday, McCain said he agreed with the American Automobile Association that we should keep tires inflated.

Wednesday in Elkhart, Obama mocked McCain for changing his position.

I just made my first donation to the McCain camp
For $25.00 you receive an official “Obama pressure gauge”
It even says “Obama Energy Plan” on it
I will never worry about my tire pressure again

A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS A VOTE AGAINST OBAMA!!

I’m inflating my tires to 500 psi.
I figure I won’t use any gas at all, then.

Spread the word: We can't inflate our way out of this! Shout it from the mountaintops until it reaches Obama's ears.

Obama doubled down on his idiotic “inflate your tires” solution to high gas prices, and the sycophantic Drive-Bys fell in line. Air in our tires (made from oil) won’t put gas in our tanks — and over-inflating them is dangerous.

Here’s the new Obambi energy plan:

It has been noted that if automobiles could go only downhill, they would get better gas mileage. Therefore, Barack Obama urges everyone in the country to drive only downhill.

BARACK’S ENERGY PLAN: WE’LL HAVE AMERICA GOING DOWNHILL!!

Obama is making a mistake in commenting on the pressure gauges. There has been a clip of him on this running all day on the radio and tv. People are getting this one point over and over again. My energy plan is an air pressure gauge. His attempt to ridicule the poking fun is making him and his inadequate plan look even more ridiculous.

They were poking fun at a recent comment Obama made that Americans could cut oil prices by making sure their tires are inflated.

No the weren't, Ed, though you and all your media cohorts are desperate to try to spin the story that way.

They were explicitly and clearly making fun of the fact that Obama said the amount of oil saved by proper tire inflation would equal all the oil available for drilling in the US.

It was an absolutely staggeringly stupid comment. That's why you want to make believe he didn't say it.

Obama was calling people who didn’t think that making sure that tires were properly inflated “ignorant”.

Here is my comeback for McCain:

Obama wants to have everyone inflate their tires and reduce dependency on foreign oil by 2 to 4%. I want to drill for oil off the coast and in ANWR and develop oil shale reserves and convert coal to oil and reduce our dependency on foreign oil by 100%!

this is hillarious

The irony is delicious.

Obama is a disciple of Saul Alinsky.

Alinsky's Fifth Rule in "Rules for Radicals" is:

“The fifth rule: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who react to your advantage”

He's getting nailed with his own tactics, he knows it, and he can't do anything about it.

"For $25.00 you receive an official “Obama pressure gauge"

Along with the pressure gauge they need to send a BIG bandaid to let people know if you inflate your tires like Obama suggests you can have a blow out and need medical attention.

Republicans are actually doing it right this time. I’m impressed.
The energy issue is such a gift from the Democrats; I just didn’t know if the RNC was smart enough to use it. But they are.
