Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) is the favorite among potential vice presidential candidates for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) . Reports indicate that the young Republican was asked to furnish the McCain campaign with documents for its vetting process.
Pundits note that Cantor would add a vibrancy to the 71-year old senator's candidacy, but also say his lack of name recall outside of Virginia and Washington may pose a serious disadvantage for McCain.
Cantor, the only Jewish Republican in the House, co-chairs the McCain campaign's Jewish outreach effort. He is also the House chief deputy minority whip and, much like previous favorite potential VP Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, is one of the Republican party's rising young stars.
Unlike Jindal, however, some conservatives have organized themselves and launched a website, ericcantorforvp.com, to "urge" McCain to choose Cantor as running mate.
Cantor has refused to discuss his prospects as vice president, dismissing a question during a conference call on Monday by saying, "This is a press conference about the energy plan and the difference between the vision Barack Obama has and John McCain."

Not familiar with Cantor.
Can he sing?
Problem - most people never heard of him. And he could have to be POTUS?
McCantor 2008! Give Al Sharpton an heart attack!
I guess Cantor doesn't get the Ron Paul crossover voters then
Hum...
Name recall as an issue?
Let me recall a few RNC notable of late...
um...
Never mind, I don’t see this as an issue...
You know, you’re right. I think we should run Briney Spears or maybe Madona. Instant name recognition.)
(Seriously, who knew about Sprio Agnew, Mondale, Qualye, or Al Gore before the election? No one. The VP gets name recognition in one news cycle.)
Who??????
Yes...
A very conservative tune.
97% ACU rating is the chorus...
Ouch...
Between 96% and 100% ACU ratings his entire career.
Cantor might be a very capable man, but I’d never heard of him until he was mentioned as a possible running mate. McCain would entirely live up (or down) to my opinion of him by selecting an unknown, rather than a well known and capable running mate.
But McCain could be the “maverick” who picked the first Jew to run on a Republican ticket, though that might have only been a secondary motive to picking an unknown.
Cantor has a 97% ACU rating. That’s probably more conservative than you.

Not a great example, I know..but how many folks had heard of Bill Clinton?
A lot less than never want to hear about him again
;-)
Won't matter. Everyone knows who McCain is. No one will vote for or against him based on his VP. It will help if the VP is younger and telegenic, but otherwise it won't really matter.
Nice tune, huh...
Damn near perfect if you ask me.
And the fact he just gave Nancy hell...
Well icing on the cake is all I can say.
Yes, picking the one of the most conservative leaders in the House would be a disaster! We need a liberal RINO to keep the conservatives from voting!
Or maybe Britney Spears! ‘Cause like, you know, everyone knows her, and she’s totally hot. (Or at least was hot.)
