VALPARAISO-The very much alive Jackson Township woman declared dead by Porter hospital in January filed suit last week against the hospital.
Diane Wright, 67, and her husband are suing for damages caused when Porter staff declared her dead after a 46-year-old North Judson woman with her name died in the hospital on Jan. 25.
Since then, Wright had had her Social Security and Blue Cross/Blue Shield terminated. The federal government billed her husband, Delbert Wright, $2,941.80 for Social Security paid into their joint account.

Reminds me of this: “I’m not dead!!!...I don’t want to go on the cart!”

He finally had to go the the state capitol, in person and breathing.

Incredible. I’m sure he could never get through to a ‘live’ person on the phone. Our gubermint dollars at work.
I was going to bring you a present—black wrapping paper and everything—but I wasn’t even invited to the damn wake.
My sympathy and condolences to you. ;y
I don't doubt that is true. I spent a long time trying to correct an error by a traffic cop. My driver's license number was accidently written on someone else's ticket (one number off). I found out about the ticket and points from my car insurance company, who didn't believe it wasn't mine. I tried calling the state, but I could never get a live person on the phone.
I finally called my state representative and asked if her office could find me a number to a real person. They did.
These people gave the hospital the benefit of the doubt. Bad decision. As soon as it happened, they should have hired a lawyer. It hurts to say that in our lawsuit-happy society, but the hospital would have had no choice except to deal with their attorney.
I wish there were some way to track the outcome of this too-common story.
