House Energy Revolt Continues
Weekly Standard ^ | August 6, 2008 | Gary Andres

Blue Dog Democrats take popular, moderate-to-conservative positions in their districts, but back in Washington they play games and often side with the liberal Democratic leadership. Once in a while, some of them vote with the Republicans. But somehow enough of them stick with their party and the Democrats win. The domestic drilling issue is a good example. Lots of them say they support the concept, but because their leadership blocks legislative action, the Blue Dogs bark, but don't vote.

There is a way under the House rules, however, to force a vote. It's called a "discharge petition" and requires 218 signatures. Getting to that number of signatures would forces a vote on The American Energy Act, Republican-backed legislation bottled up in committee by Speaker Pelosi. Yesterday House Republican leader John Boehner challenged the Democrats to put up or shut up when comes to easing pain at the pump. He urged those who say they support more drilling to sign the Republican-sponsored discharge petition. Boehner said this yesterday:

My message to Democratic lawmakers is this: if you're really for increased American energy production, then prove it by putting it in writing. Sign the discharge petitions House Republicans are circulating that will force votes on energy legislation Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring to the floor.

To date, no Democrats have broken with their party leadership and signed the discharge petition. Unfortunately, most voters don't understand the intricacies of legislative procedure. But they do understand hypocrisy. And voicing support for a bill, but not signing a discharge petition is playing word games and practicing duplicity.

I won't hotlink to this picture but it shows my own Blue Dog Rat, Patrick Murphy, arm in arm with Traitor Murtha, with Her Majesty Nancy gazing lovingly at her boy toy. It's disgusting.

There’s a lot of that a** kissing going on. They need to be tarred and feathered or caned in the halls of Congress. Literally. They are worse than pathetic.

The only problem I have with this article is the title. It should read "House Members Doing Their Job!" Why is it a revolt for them to be there, working for us as they are paid by us to do? This country, led by the liberal media, has gone tipsy. They should be approving what used to be hailed as "good work ethics," and good representation. When anyone calls the actions of our leaders who are diligently working to help solve a crisis and not ignoring it, has the stupidity to call the unending attention to the problem by these representatives a "revolt," -- that is what is revolting!

Maxine Waters warns Shell president in House committee hearing

A report by Fox News, captured in a clip posted on YouTube.com (Must see video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUaY3LhJ-IQ) , showed Waters challenging the president of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, to guarantee the prices consumers pay will go down if the oil companies are allowed to drill wherever they want off of U.S. shores.

Hofmeister replied: "I can guarantee to the American people, because of the inaction of the United States Congress, ever-increasing prices unless the demand comes down."

The Shell exec said paying $5 at the pump "will look like a very low price in the years to come if we are prohibited from finding new reserves, new opportunities to increase supplies."

Waters responded, in part, "And guess what this liberal would be all about. This liberal will be about socializing … uh, um. …"

The congresswoman paused to collect her thoughts [for about 5-6 seconds this went on, while her colleagues behind her laughed].

"...would be about, basically, taking over, and the government running all of your companies. …"

The oil executives responded, according to Fox News, by saying they've seen this before, in Hugo Chavez's Venezuela.

I just sent the Madam Speaker the following letter along with my Congressman Dennis Moore.

We need leadership in America that listens what we need as a country.

Please! as distasteful as it might be, send the Madem Speaker and your elected official an email and tell them how you feel. Flood Washington's email servers and tell them to come back on Monday Morning to deal with Energy and the High Paying Good Jobs Drilling creates for our fellow Americans.

Dear Speaker Pelosi,

Attached is a letter sent to my Congressman Dennis Moore. Congress needs to come back to Washington Next Monday and start dealing with the Energy crisis in a Bipartisan manner instead of the grandstanding that has taken place when you turned the lights and camara's off last week. This is America and we all are acting like its a third world country.

We need to grow Jobs and that can only be done by changing our Can't Do additude to a Can Do additude. We need domestic drilling in the US and Coastal Waters and in ANWR. Drilling creates Jobs for Americans. High Paying Jobs! Building Nuclear Power Plants creat Jobs! High Paying Jobs.

What do you and the rest of the congress not understand about supporting the creation of Jobs and security for America?

Please deal with the issues that effect Jobs, Security and the future growth of our Nation.

Best Regards, XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Congressman Dennis Moore
1727 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Moore,

Thank you for your August 6th, 2008 update from Washington, regarding the need to deal with the energy issue. I find the message very shallow when Congress could have take the necessary steps to continue the dialog and debate on Drilling Here and Drilling now for American security at home.

The defining moment occurred last week when Speaker Pelosi, showed America what bipartisan cooperation really meant to her and the democracy we have in America by turning off the CSPAN Camera’s, sound and lights on the minority side of the house. Yes that is a real partisan and a mature show of power by the Speaker of the House! I was greatly disappointed that you have not taken the time to address this grandstanding issue and the energy issues with Kansan's.

There is a real solution to the energy crisis in America today and that is for Congress to take some action in allowing for new domestic drilling, here at home and off the coastal waters of the United States. Even, the Alaskan's want to drill in ANWR! So why not drill there. Think about the new high paying jobs the drilling creates for Americans!

We have gone from a nation of Can Do to a nation of Can’t Do with Gridlock in Washington. Evidently if you’re not a part of the solution to the energy issue then your part of the problem! Perhaps six terms in Congress is enough in Washington?

Creating a windfall profit's tax against the oil companies and giving that money back to the voters is a bad idea. Everything were hearing from the Democratic Party is tax and more tax! And then were going to give you this $1,000.00 rebate from the windfall tax. Well as a shareholder of Exxon-Mobil since 1985, I find that message troubling as Barack Obama's plan to play Robin Hood with the American taxpayer is dead wrong. Windfall Profit taxes will hurt the Oil companies and hurt their stockholders who are voters in the 2008 election. Frankly more taxes do not create more new Jobs. All more taxes do is to drive jobs away from the USA.

You letter stated that you wanted bipartisan cooperation between the parties, If that's really true you need to tell speaker Pelosi loud and clear that congress needs to return to Washington next Monday. Americans want to see a Congress that is working in Washington, instead taking a FIVE WEEK VACATION.

Best Regards,

Ouch that will leave a mark on the Blue dogs! They could probably see loss of seats in their districts if they don’t do what the citizens want. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place!
