HOUSTON In a case that has drawn international attention, Texas executed José E. Medellín on Tuesday night in defiance of an international court ruling and despite pleas from the Bush administration for a new hearing. The execution came just before 10 p.m. Central time, shortly after the United States Supreme Court denied a last request for a reprieve. Protesters for and against the death penalty clamored in the rain outside the Huntsville Unit, about 70 miles north of Houston, where Mr. Medellín was executed by lethal injection. Im sorry my actions caused you pain, he said to the witnesses present. I hope this brings you the closure that you seek. Never harbor hate. Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican, rejected calls from Mexico and Washington to delay the execution, citing the torture, rape and strangulation of two teenage girls in Houston 15 years ago as just cause for the death penalty. Mr. Medellín and five other teenage boys in his street gang took part in the rape and murder of the girls, Elizabeth Pena, 16, and Jennifer Ertman, 14. The gang raped the girls for an hour, then strangled them. Their corpses were found two days later.

Maybe there’s hope after all.
Republicans in a fighting mood and now this.
I’m feeling optimistic.
Governor GoodHair did a good thing, finally.
You will not find a bigger critic of the liberals Jorge Bush and Juan McCain.
Bush is the man reason I left the Republican Party after 32 years. McCain is just a liberal turd.
They will kowtow to Mexico City, that’s all I know.... I would imagine an envoy from the White House is on his way to Mexico right now, all quiet and hushed like, with an apology and explanation from Bush to his Mexican overlords, and that it will never happen again.
Know that while Medellin's execution does not bring back the girls, it goes a long way in protecting someone else's daughter and there is honor in that.
You said it very well. I am sure those sweet little girls are going some place lovely and comforting, but I am pretty sure—though it is not up to me to decide—about somebody else going to be Hitler’s dinner guest with the room temperature set on 700 degrees and the worst food imagineable and some pretty horrid dinner guests.
San Francisco is facing some backlash on that policy right now with the loose illegal who gunned down three family members as they were riding in a car. Liberals are finally finding out they can’t feed, house and protect predators without getting attacked themselves.
Not that express... it still took 15 years.
My favorite! With salt and lime. :-)
(Cute pic!)
Don’t mess with Texas, the Int’l bull crap won’t save your ass.
I OBJECT!!!...that he wasnt executed on pay per view for the families.
Heh. I like his other line: “In Texas, if you kill someone, we kill you back!” Makes me proud to be a native Texan.
I remember when this first happened. I can’t believe it took this long for justice to be rendered.
Texas Executes Mexican Despite Objections in Accordance with State Law
There, that's better.
And Bush tried to stop it. This is the kind of crap that makes me disgusted with him.

I’m loving Texas this evening. Good job, Cowboys.
