HOUSTON In a case that has drawn international attention, Texas executed José E. Medellín on Tuesday night in defiance of an international court ruling and despite pleas from the Bush administration for a new hearing. The execution came just before 10 p.m. Central time, shortly after the United States Supreme Court denied a last request for a reprieve. Protesters for and against the death penalty clamored in the rain outside the Huntsville Unit, about 70 miles north of Houston, where Mr. Medellín was executed by lethal injection. Im sorry my actions caused you pain, he said to the witnesses present. I hope this brings you the closure that you seek. Never harbor hate. Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican, rejected calls from Mexico and Washington to delay the execution, citing the torture, rape and strangulation of two teenage girls in Houston 15 years ago as just cause for the death penalty. Mr. Medellín and five other teenage boys in his street gang took part in the rape and murder of the girls, Elizabeth Pena, 16, and Jennifer Ertman, 14. The gang raped the girls for an hour, then strangled them. Their corpses were found two days later.

Yep, gotta love Texas. Hehehehe.
Good riddance.
The feds have done their part in urging restraint and Texas has done its part in carrying out a just sentence, regardless of pressure from international meddlers. When you go to a foreign country, you are subject to the laws of that foreign jurisdiction. American kids get caned. American drug smugglers get executed. American spies get imprisoned. When foreigners come here, we have a duty to carry out our laws as our citizens—i.e., the victims—have a right to rely on American laws to avenge them and protect their survivors. Justice has been delayed long enough. Now it is between God and Medellin.
Great news that a governor can, in affect, tell Washington and the internationalists to SHOVE OFF! That needs to become a long expanding trend.
I will be happy to see both go. Both illegal aliens, and an Administration of 7.5 years of abject appeasement of Mejico and open borders by Bush. Good riddance is right. Long Live the Great People and State of TEXAS.
Makes me proud to be a (transplanted) Texan.
MM
Both.
The "World Kangaroo Court" needs to mind its own business. We American adults have this stuff handled.
To me it’s obvious that if things go bad, really bad, TEXAS is where the stand will be made...
Glad to see Texas assert its sovereignity.
Actually this shows he was treated the same as the Americans who were convicted of this crime. One has already been executed before him (2006) and another is on death row. 2 more were 17 at the time and have life sentences. And one more has a 40 year sentence.
The one who was executed tonight was proud of his “macho” actions and boasted of them to police when he was apprehended 3 days afterwards.
This is not a case of mistaken identity. If we were to free him then we should also free the Manson family.
Gang bangers need to learn that they are not invincible and despite what movies and hip hop tell them, being a thug and a playa won’t get them very far. Rape and murder for sheer pleasure are wrong.
Where were the womens rights groups in this controversy?
In San Francisco and other communities (and even in Houston) the police will cut you loose sometimes if you aren’t a citizen.
The headline just makes me smile.
There are in fact some things that just end as they should, no matter who kicks and screams and behaves like an embicile. Sometimes, things just end in the way that nature would have it.
There isn't a hot enough place for such animals as the late Senor Medellin.
But hey, borders/schmorders, hey these are "good people" (Bush) and all "God's children" (McCain).
