Gun-control groups fear top activist was NRA spy

PHILADELPHIA — A gun-control activist who championed the cause for more than a decade and served on the boards of two anti-violence groups is suspected of working as a paid spy for the National Rifle Association, and now those organizations are expelling her and sweeping their offices for bugs.

The suggestion that Mary Lou McFate was a double agent is contained in a deposition filed as part of a contract dispute involving a security firm. The muckraking magazine Mother Jones, in a story last week, was the first to report on McFate's alleged dual identity.

The NRA refused to comment to the magazine and did not respond to calls Tuesday from The Associated Press. Nor did McFate.

The 62-year-old former flight attendant and sex counselor from Sarasota, Fla., is not new to the world of informants.

I’ve seen this story try to stick at a couple of venues but seriously doubt anyone was on the NRA payroll.

"...and sweeping their offices for bugs."

haha

"This is Carlos' spy-cam, and this is my spy-cam? Look at the size of this thing! Size matters. But in the spy world, it's reversed. You want people to say, "Look how small and sexy and sleek this is." Not "How huge this is! Look at what he pulled out of his pants. It's huge!"

From the story: In retrospect, Helmke said, he now realizes McFate stopped by the Washington office for meetings and conference calls that could have been handled by phone, and perhaps pushed too hard to join the board or lobby Congress.

How do you evaluate someone's effort to get on a board, and where does it toe the line between absolute devotion or scamming? How does Mr. Helmke differentiate?

Pretty good cover. Disguised herself as an ugly wench so no one would have suspected.

There are probably gun-control fascists planted in the Chambers of Commerce scattered around the country.

When Florida passed the “right to carry at work” law....it was the state Chamber of Commerce (aka Collective of Communists) who fought the law in courts.

Kudos to the NRA for being sly...but dont doubt that gun-grabbers are doing the same covert ops

She’s a former flight attendant?

She’s a former sex counselor?

And, she’s a spy for the NRA?

Would this story make a great TV movie or what?

Now they’re going to spend the next 5-10 years purging, repurging, and re-repurging their ranks. If anything, the most zealous of them will come under suspicion.

With a little luck, they’ll be so busy doing that that they won’t have time to oppose the ongoing recovery of gun rights.

I have never understood that phrase since it took Grant a couple of years and over 100,000 casualties, more than Lee’s army ever numbered, to take Richmond.

Anti-business enviromentalists too.
