Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain may be thrust into the public spat between House Republicans and Democrats over the Democratic leaderships decision to take summer recess without vote on offshore oil drilling.
The Democratic leadership allowed the legislatures scheduled summer break to begin August 1 without holding an up-or-down vote on increasing domestic oil drilling. Republicans stayed behind to protest the decision and have been delivering speeches on the floor of House in support of more drilling.
In a briefing with bloggers in House Minority Leader John Boehners office August 5, Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz ,said he would love to have McCain come speak on the floor as part of the protest. He said he believes inviting a senator to speak on the House floor would not violate House rules and challenged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to stop it.
"Yes, I think it is something he [McCain] could do. I mean, technically, we are trying to abide by the rules of procedure for the House," Shadegg said. "[W]e begin with a prayer, the pledge and we are speaking from the well -- with one exception, we're not taking questions from the gallery, but we are trying to accord ourselves normal decorum from the House floor."

That would be a REAL slap in the face of the Democrats, and it would FORCE them to respond in thier typical childish ways...!
The MSM is barely covering the House Republican’s actions.
Force them to with a visit/speech by McCain.
Are they still there or did they go home?
Go Johnnie! Go! Go!
I’m getting tired of the ads that blame the high gas prices on the “Big” oil companies.
The GOP has to stop playing games. George W. Bush has the Constitutional Authority to force Congress to come back to Washington.
With Bush’s weak leadership, is it any wonder why the Republicans are slated to lose so many seats in November?
And I constantly hear how great and conservative GWB is.
I like this protest. I don’t like the threats of stopping Government. That is something Nasty Pelosi would do.
Nothing has been done in years except to exploit corn for ethanol and Wind Farms using age old technology with no way to save the energy generated by the wind...when it blows. McCain would do well to join his colleagues and demand we drill NOW without law suits getting the way and we build new refineries and look at coal for energy. Good lawyers will applaud this rather than greedy ones helping Greenies and others stand in the way of United States being dependant on others for her oil no longer.
I'm sure McCain never anticipated this, nor perhaps anyone else, but a unique situation that screams "LEADERSHIP!" is facing McCain that would, IMO, solidify all Americans of whatever faction.
The Pubbies have a good plan, I think, to try to draw McCain into this and, if more Pubbies would return to Washington, put on a tie when they don't have to, and show up, in the dark when they don't have to ...
Who knows what God can do with men that don't care whom gets the credit?
Do it, John ... join the Tea Party ... walk onto Lexington Green ... rally the nation back to our roots.
You may re-discover some of your own.
Look, the Democrats are in disarray. Events have gone against them. They DO look childish, ideologues who fundamentally cannot cope with the real world.
This is the time for a political, strategic strike!
Make this cngess one for the people. The other side is absent? So what!
TAKE THE BULLY PULPIT!
The president is not occupying the Bully Pulpit. ITS EMPTY!
Take it John McCain, or the Obamessiah WILL!
...as your post #10 testifies.
No, I'm not a McCain bot, but it has ALWAYS been about America for me .. and I always believed that was true here in JimRob'sd living room.
Yes, it would work. Especially if he was accompanied by a caravan of several hundred bikers from Sturgis.
They had these wind farms for miles and miles out of Modesto, Calif. back in the 1970's. Most of them weren't working because of busted propellers etc. They also had solar panels on top of houses back then. If any of this worked or was profitable they would have been going gung ho by now. After all it has been almost 40 years.
Now I live in Eastern Washington and they are putting these awful things on the top of the only foothills we have here.
These “guerilla” tactics are resonating with the voting public.
I’m glad the GOP is finally showing some gumption.
Newbie.
Ugly things?
I think they are kind of pretty. They can and do work.
The world has been using wind power for centuries.
Do it John McCain! Call a press conferance in the gallery with all of the reps standing behind you and show America that you are a leader! Hold up the tire guage and call it Obama’s energy plan, repeat some of the remarks of speaker Pelosi. Go in for the kill now! Call for the truckers and citizens to show up in DC to voice their frustrations about energy prices. Do it!
Something tells me McCain is too much a liberal RINO to join in. Beijing Bush-wan isnt helping....and I just dont see Chongqing McCain shredding his liberal RINO ways to join in
Would be nice if he did....and I would reconsider voting for him...but I havent forgotten his track record
