John Edwards' name left out of police report

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Beverly Hills police are treating a late night confrontation between tabloid photographers and man identified as former U.S. Sen. John Edwards as a "civil dispute" and leaving his name out of official reports.

Photographers from the National Enquirer say they chased Edwards as he was leaving the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22.

The Enquirer reported Edwards was visiting a mistress with whom he had a child this year. Edwards has dismissed the stories as "lies" and "tabloid trash" but avoided reporters with questions about them.

Enquirer photographers Alexander Hitchen of New York and Alan Butterfield of Salt Lake City filed a police report with the city of Beverly Hills. The photographers say Edwards locked himself in the men's room and security later escorted him out of the hotel. One of the photographers say a security guard threatened to break his camera if he took pictures.

A police report refers to Edwards as a "political figure" but does not name him.

Reports of Edwards' unexplained late night visit to the hotel became fodder for jokes on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

The reports have divided North Carolinians. Edwards' supporters dismiss them as unproven, sensationalistic and overly personal. His opponents, including bloggers and radio talk show hosts, accuse the "main stream media" of partisanship for not reporting them.

I wonder how long they debated over how to word that, and how high up the chain it went until someone decided to use “political figure”.

Bet it wasn’t the officers who were there...

That’s self-appointed, self-anointed. What mental midgets!

I do believe their approval rating is still below 10%.

Did these photographers stop chasing Edwards long enough to actually take and PHOTOGRAPHS?

If they did I wonder why they have not released them yet?

We still have two Americas. One set of laws for the anointed, one for the commoners.

Hey, Jesse Jackson did the same thing. So did Ted Kennedy, and Bobby, and Jack and Slick. What's the big deal? Just the norm for Demonrats. Were not in the days of Gary Hartpense when the demonrats still had standards of behavior that they pretended to honor. We are now in the Gary Condit era. Anything goes. Just deny, deny, deny.

Yeah but if the news reports had referred to some “political figure with a wide stance in the men’s room stall”, it wouldn’t have been very newsworthy after about 6 hours.

Because they want to spread this story out over many print issues... After all, they are in this as a business, not a non-profit entity.

I believe there's actually some question as to whether or not Craig was actually sitting at the time of his bust ;-)

Two Americas:

One group lives in 2,000 SF homes, others live in 28,200 SF mansions

One group uses the ambulance for medical emergencies, others chase them for a living “punishing” business.

One group has a small sense of vanity, others have morphed into male divas with personal hairdressers (coiffed to perfection)

One group will take care of their sick spouse in NC or DC; others elect to spend their time with women other than their spouses in Beverly Hills hotels

One group sort of likes Tim Robbins/Susan Sarandon’s movies, but hate their politics; others have them endorse him as President

One group is called the Liberal elite, the other is called America.
